Yeah, your engineering degree might pay OK, but you will always be working for someone else. Plus, you're never gonna have anything to talk about with anyone who doesn't share your interests, which you need to be able to do when you network.

Try opening your mind. Expand your horizons and do something new, and unlike you.

Just my advice

Pretty true, actually. My dad got a master's in mechanical engineering, worked for aerospace companies designing various things, eventually got fed up with management and government contracts so he left engineering, taught for a while, taught himself the tax code and became a self-employed tax agent making six figures working full time only a few months a year.

The degree (excluding doctorates) is more of an indicator of competence than career path.

Have you finished that project you were assigned? That break room is always too full. Get back to work. I don't want you standing until the coding is done on those PGA's for the Johnson and Johnson project!

incorrect

I'm getting my BS in comp sci and then my MBA which will allow me to be the boss of the code monkeys

Then take a couple of courses outside the core ones. MBA admissions look for that. I know cause I have one.

40 hours a week of work is 40 hours a week of work. But in a STEM career you get respect and you earn the big bucks. In a wageslave job which other paths lead you to, you get minimum wage and get shit on by soccer moms all day.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
yeah i know, i mean i enjoy my current classes but i would prefer history, economics or politics so much more man but i was so silly and chose science based A-levels which means i can't transfer to those areas of study

Yeah, your engineering degree might pay OK, but you will always be working for someone else.
You know, unless you use your engineering degree to initiate a startup. Then again, unless you're the head of any sort of completely independent working body, you're working for someone else, regardless of your degree.

Plus, you're never gonna have anything to talk about with anyone who doesn't share your interests, which you need to be able to do when you network.
And to what other degree exactly does that not apply? If STEM folks can't speak because the depths of their knowledge go too deep for others to understand, that sounds like a relative advantage to me. Not that it doesn't apply to the knowledge gleaned from other degrees as well.

Try opening your mind. Expand your horizons and do something new, and unlike you.
If there's one thing you should learn from STEM it's to do exactly that lol

If you're still in school, take some. Don't just stay in your major. I'm NOT saying to major in liberal arts. Just take a few courses.

Some engineers do. Most don't. Hell, a TON of software engineers are getting shit on right now by companies outsourcing jobs to code houses in India. I've seen this start to happen with structural too.

You gotta make your own future, and sticking exclusively to STEM courses isn't the way. You gotta be well rounded and see and think outside the box. If you don't it's only a matter of time until Sandeep's house of code takes your job.

Universities in the UK don't work like that, you see when you're 16 you've essentially finished secondary/high school, however if you wish to progress to higher education you have to study 3-5 subjects these are called A-levels. For example if I chose to study Math, Biology and Chemistry during my A-levels I would only be able to progress onto university courses that relate to those subjects so Engineering, Biology etc etc. If I want to do something like politics now I'd have to go back and study subjects related to politics at A-level.

So this 4-year aerospace degree is a waste of time? Damn.

I really wish I could do something more meaningful with my life, like working in retail.

I would recommend a course in reading comprehension.

I never said abandon STEM. I said to take courses outside of it too.

You didn't have to specify it because you heavily implied it.

I understand what you're saying, but there's so many things you haven't even considered.

it is indeed a lot of stress and, initially, a lot of risk. but what is life good for if you aren't willing to step out of your comfort zone and take some risks?

That's just generalizations. Most of my friends are outside of my major, and I don't necessarily mind working for an engineering firm. But I could always move up in management or pursue a business degree along with engineering. My current professor did that.

Very true. If you hold yourself to one course of study. But, you don't see a big "every one but history majors are unemployable" movement...
