Just realized they probably named Ben after Ben Kenobi... Beautiful movie, I've seen it twice already and going tomorrow. I have very minor complaints, like there being too much humor, if such a thing is possible. Also some things could have been explained more, and someone could have said hey, we just lost Coruscant. I think Snoke was a teacher at Luke's Jedi Academy. Maybe he and Luke had a disagreement of sorts, and Snoke formed the Knights of Ren. Hope to find out more about that next movie. I like how there's some mystery and plenty of back story to be filled.

i enjoyed the watch. it was A New Hope 2.0 which makes sense because it was JJ's favorite. but i liked it. Rey and Finn acted very young, but i guess that could be explained away with isolation and naiveté. idk i wish i didnt have it spoiled for me before i saw the movie.

The great thing about Kylo Ren’s character development in this movie is that he is so clearly being driven by fear, and as Yoda explains to Anakin in episode 1 (maybe 2?), fear is the path to the dark side. Rey reverses Kylo’s force mindreading trick and is like “you’re afraid that you’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader”, and right before he kills Han Solo, he says something like “I’m so afraid. I know what I need to do, will you help me”.

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. The key aspect of what makes a sith a sith, and what leads someone to the darkside is that suffering, that fear, and that weakness. Anakin was seduced to the dark side by the same feelings (fear of his mother’s and later Padme’s deaths). The sith seek power due to fear of their own weakness, and it’s really an interesting twist on the classical villain archetype, like you say.

ANH was my favorite Star Wars, so this was bretty great. A lot of homages to the OT, and reused portions of the old EU. Kind of hoping that they rerelease old materials with updates to fit the new canon.

Meh. It was pretty derivative but had plenty of its own unique characteristics. Way better than the prequels and it kept faith with the style of the original trilogy. I don't think it'll be nearly as divisive as the prequels were.

Nothing special, but certainly not bad in any sense of the word.

In comparison to ANH being an 8/10, ESB being a 9/10, and RotJ being a 7/10, I'd give TFA a 7/10.

8/10 The main gripes were that they took quite a bit from A New Hope, other than that it was great.
