I've been reading on the Weimar lately and while the US hasn't been as open, there are similarities.

Maybe humanity is hard wired for a reset when we get too far from a design. Not an external one (i.e. God) but something genetic. When procreation is threatened too much a group mind (for lack of a better phrase) takes over to ensure species survival.

Maybe this explains Trump's election.
