Not sure if you are familiar with the name Marc Dutroux? He's a Belgian man who abducted six young girls and locked them up in his basement where he eventually tortured and disposed of them. In the end, only two of the girls survived because the killer was caught in time. It is generally considered to be one of the absolute worst and monstrous things to have happened in the recent history of the country.

Either way, what happened afterwards is that the leading investigative judge on the case, who was greatly responsible for the capture of the man, attended an informal benefit for the victims. At this event, spaghetti was served as the dinner because it was the favorite meal of two of the sisters who died, hence the name.

Despite not talking to any or the victims or doing anything out of the ordinary despite paying his respects as the leading judge, the criminal defence of the man later brought this up in the trial in order to contest the neutrality and unbiasedness of the investigative judge. As a result, the judge, seen as somewhat of a national hero for his role in the capture of Dutroux, was taken of the case by the highest Court of Cassation on grounds of the principle of "justice must not only be done, it must also be seen done".

This was followed by nationwide bafflement and loss of any faith in the legal system, calling the decision completely outlandish and ridiculous. A few days later, 300.000 people engaged in a peaceful "white march" through the capital to protest against the state of the legal system. Two years later, a massive overhaul of the justice department and police services was accomplished, which greatly improved its effectiveness.

Probably not as much of a scandal as you expected, but it was a pretty big thing over here with major consequences for our judicial branch.
