I recall awhile back Ian gave a lot of shit about Windows 10, saying that its malware. While I wouldn't call it malware because malware itself is suppose to fuck up your entire OS as well as it crashing and burning, but I do agree that that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update has brought one change in particular that I dislike, that being you can't turn off Cortana anymore like you used to. If you're on Windows 10 Home, you have to turn her off via regedit, If your on Pro you can turn her off via Regt edit or via the Local Group policy editor.

Here's a tut if you wanna know how to do that: http://www.howtogeek.com/265027/how-to-disable-cortana-in-windows-10/

Now in my case, I've clean installed Windows 10, I even have gone back to Windows 7 to verify this itself and yes that Get 10 upgrade crap should now be gone, the 1 year free upgrade thing is over for good.

At least the product keys that I snagged, I own and I'm able to do a clean install of Windows 10 since I have a DVD burned to it. Now, I had Windows 10 Enterprise, but it fucked my chances of getting the Anniversary Update, so I had to downgrade back and that costed me a fucking clean install -_-

Reason why is because you'd have to get the Anniversary update for Enterprise via server or contact MS for volume licensing and I didn't have that option because I'm not IT. So I'm back on a clean copy of Windows 10 Pro right now.

I don't know why, that was stupid.

So... I have to agree with Ian, Windows 10 is kinda fucked up, and with the Anniversary update Microsoft is pretty much playing big brother, no doubt about that. But, I still wouldn't call Windows 10 itself malware.

I actually like a lot of the exclusive content Windows 10 has, if it wasn't for that, I would be back on 7 right now.

Anyway, which Operating System do you guys enjoy the most when it comes to modern Windows?

7? 8? 8.1? or 10?

You could just say Mac Master Race or Linux FTW or whatever if you want or XP. Doesn't matter. :P

TL;DR version: Windows 10 Anniversary made it harder to turn off Cortana, you no longer can get the free upgrade GWX.exe anymore if you are on 7, 8, or 8.1, which is your favorite OS?

Is that concise enough?

If I didn't use my PC as my primary platform for gaming, I'd just install some Linux distribution on my machine.

I've found Windows 10 so far to just be Windows 7 with more integration of my microsoft account, which I hardly mind so it's all good.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
Windows 8.1 is alright with Classic Shell to bring back a (customisable) start button menu.

A shame they moved some shit around from Windows 7, I always have to google where a certain rarely used setting is because 8.1 decides to hide them from me.

Windows 7 is still my favourite.

Windows 7 is like the new XP imo. On top of that you can make it look and feel like XP even to quite an extent. Even make it sound like XP.

10 doesn't give you that option.

I mean you're missing out but alright

See that's the thing. Something like that shouldn't cost $2.99. Why pay money for that if I can just go back to Windows 7, install the Universal Theme Patcher and get loads of third party themes?

Besides, last time I installed a custom theme on Windows 10, it brought the entire OS to a grinding halt. The taskbar had trouble loading. I couldn't start the taskmanager to restart Windows Explorer, nothing.

Because someone had to program that and it wasn't Microsoft. And you can still use it after the trial ends, but some features are turned off. A lot of the custom themes actually utilize this anyway so yeah.

I tried out the trial and by the end I decided that I didn't want to go back to the old start menu, so I threw a few bucks in and got a few keys for myself along with a few backups to support the people that made it. They're super good with updates and making sure it works seamlessly. It doesn't slow your computer down in the slightest.

Nothing wrong with giving the trial a shot if you prefer to make Windows 10 run more like 7.

Eh, if I wanted that, I'd just go back to 7. I don't want to take the risk of screwing up Windows 10 again, but thanks for the offer.

I'm pretty content with the Anniversary update as of right now.
