Totally hypothetical question: if genetecists were able to develop a type of cow that functioned just like beef cattle but were born without possibility of any higher brain function (effectively braindead), would you still consider eating its meat to be wrong?

That would be morally permissible, yeah. Without higher brain function, you're effectively taking away the whole pain/suffering thing, which would obviate any moral issues one could have about it, I think.

however, i do find our unwillingness to just let go of meat entirely, synthetic or otherwise, to be pretty sad and pathetic
