So my parents have been turning off the internet in my house nightly for weeks

Such is the life of a sophomore. I figured out tonight how to counter it though. They're blocking specific IP addresses on the router and I figured out how to just change my internal IP to one that isn't being blocked. Piece of cake.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I'm a master hacker/game developer and I'm having trouble multitasking while playing Halo 4. AMA me anything.

EDIT: Just realized since I got my Xbox so recently, an IP block hasn't been put on it. So I didn't have to leave that custom game after all... Fuck.

They still want to use their iPads and shit past 11pm though. When there was a hard-wired timer plugged into the wall this wasn't an issue. I don't anticipate them going back to how it used to be so I'm set for life.

I can't set an internal IP address preference in the 360's settings as far as I know. I haven't fucked around with it much. Just glad to have gotten it working on my Windows box.

np mang. If you only reserve as many internal addresses are there are devices then there will be no unused addresses to switch to/exploit.

The main reason I did this is so I don't accidentally use mobile data early in the morning. Usually I like to keep my wifi on at night but when the router is blocking connections, my phone thinks it has a connection but it just isn't going anywhere. It'll keep trying on the wifi forever instead of switching off to mobile data. I like to be able to chat with people before I go to bed.

Of course, morning comes and I try to watch YouTube videos (at this point the wifi has started working again) on my phone and I accidentally use a shitload of my mobile data because I forgot to switch back to wifi.

I generally don't stay up late but this is more of a convenience for me (and because I have to pay for any excess mobile data).
