I neither fear, nor despise.
And not gonna lie, I was lost most of the movie. I knew he was chasing replicants initially but then they stopped really mentioning it as time went on, then he'd randomly encounter them and they'd try to kill him. How'd Deckard know they were who he was looking for? It all kinda just "happened", or did I miss something?

deckard tracked zhora down. the snake scale he found in that apartment led him right to her. i guess he just didnt think she would catch on that he was a blade runner (even though he was about as subtle as a brick through a window). leon happened to be in the area and saw the murder; deckard would have recognized his face from the footage of his VK test. i dont think deckard knew pris was at sebastian's apartment, but he was specifically sent there by bryant and gaff after sebastian's body was discovered in tyrell's penthouse (they probably assumed as much, though; i think he definitely went in thinking there was a decent chance a replicant would be hiding out there). roy arriving soon after pris's death is convenient but it makes sense that he'd return for her after his failure to procure more life for them.

ehhhh does the director's cut really add to it or just make you question deckard's humanity?

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.

Theatrical beats you over the head with the plot and Deckard's detective work via VO, omits the unicorn dream and has a generic "driving off into the sunset" ending, as well as a few other details. Ironically while it serves the plot on a platter, the hints that Deckard may not be human aren't really developed. Iirc the escape scene deals with the fact he left Rachel alive rather than them both being replicants.

Director's and Final cut have little differences to each other apart from a few CGI improvements, colour filtering, and their format (originally the Director's Cut was VHS, and lower quality, while Final Cut got better quality through advances in film restoration on DVD/Bluray, and some bonus features).

If you get confused, go back and watch it again at some point. If you're still totally stuck, find a theatrical copy and watch it because all the detective work is explained with a jarring VO, or read the plot on Wkipedia.

Hmm...
I still need to watch this (and I've seen the new one already). Is it better than the new Blade Runner?

hard to quantify. it's well structured, moody, and visually striking. you'll almost certainly enjoy it if you liked 2049

It's a lot better, IMO.
