"I'm afraid the legacy of Gundam dwindled down to the mobile suits, in the form of plastic models as a business and military hobbyism. Even these mobile suits were summarized down to protagonist mecha, Gundam, so that friend and foe alike were all uniformly Gundams. One could say this was inevitable: the pivotal creation that made Gundam a classic and drives the franchise expansion to this day is, of course, the mobile suit, represented by the RX-78 Gundam, weapon bearing the elements of a character; and the way of the world is that characters are what ultimately remain with the audience. It's not a bad thing. I simply find it unfortunate that the Tale that enveloped the worldview and ideas on war presented in First Gundam ceased to function as anything more than device for the mobile suit fantasy."
Oh fuck that. Three Master Grades this year and no 1/100s from G-Reco at all.#NotMyGundam
That's good, G-Reco is trash. Quote from: Casper on October 03, 2016, 01:45:41 AMOh fuck that. Three Master Grades this year and no 1/100s from G-Reco at all.#NotMyGundam
Nigga I know G-Reco was trash, but the suits are still awesome.
You srs? The poster-MS doesn't even look like a Gundam save for the color scheme. Quote from: Casper on October 03, 2016, 10:09:47 AMNigga I know G-Reco was trash, but the suits are still awesome.
Gundams are a bigger waste of money than GW miniatures.
Good. God damn, not every mobile suit needs to be a rehash of the same overdone design.

God damn, not every mobile suit needs to be a rehash of the same overdone design. I agree tom a very small extent. The slight adjustments to the original design to fit in each timeline is appropriate, but if the titular Gundam doesn't look like one at all, why is it even called Gundam? It's not like Sunrise NEEDS to slap the word Gundam on their mech show titles, Code Geass was super popular.
I think we're coming at this from two different angles. But The Exia is a highly popular design, same for the Astray, and neither look like an iconic Gundam. After 30 going on 40 years, some change is welcome. Just freaking release different kits, or a Zaku I 2.0 for fucks sake.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with different designs. Turn A is one of my favorites as with the Exia, but both are close enough to the original where if you saw it, you think "Oh it's Gundam!" right away without having to look really into it. I simply don't get that same vibe from the G-Self. It looks like a power ranger passing for a war machine. I get the original RX-78 wasn't exactly the best looking originally, but they built upon the design in the later UC titles. Maybe my personal bias against Tomino and the show itself is blinding me. I really hate how warped Tomino's views have become and adding this silly timeline to his original master piece UC really angers me.
