I personally thought Rey and Kylo were great.

No one seems to like Rey, actually. Everyone says she's a mary sue, but I disagree. The only thing about her that made me raise an eyebrow was not only how quickly she was able to grasp the Force, but also how to wield a lightsaber properly. That seemed kinda like bullshit, but it's a kiddie fantasy flick, so I just don't care that much.

It is basically just a stick at the end of the day. Not much training needed.

they weren't jumping around like idiots. The fights actually felt heavy. I loved it.

Another thing not talked about in this movie is the lighting. It was incredible. The ones that stand out the most are the part on the bridge where it shows blue and red for light vs dark, then turns red completely as Kylo takes the turn.

And then in the forest with the blue and red. Sound effects were fantastic as well, and finally a live action set and not just CGI everywhere. It wasn't perfect, but I think it nailed what the new ones need, and what hampered the older ones. Live action sets just make the actors more engaged, period.

I'm in full agreement. What's great about the TFA duel is that what little flashy stuff is present in the duel, such as the jump spin and the twirling of the saber, is performed by Kylo Ren as a deliberate attempt to intimidate Finn, rather than as a legimitate combat move intended to defeat him. Kylo Ren was basically mocking Finn for being a nobody with no saber training, and was showing off in order to scare him. The moment that Kylo starts actually trying, the stylish stuff stops and Finn goes down. It's basically the same thing that happened in Empire.

Much preferable to the dancing seen in the prequels.

However, I do have to agree that Kylo is SHIT at the moment. Whiny ass emo kid with daddy issues. God damnit Abrams. Should have kept the mask on the whole movie honestly.
Hopefully, in the now that Ha-...do I seriously have to spoiler that still? Anyways that one part in the movie everybody spoiled is over with. Emo Ren can now actually be somewhat badass after his "training is complete".

One thing to note, Kylo Ren was actually injured in both lightsaber duels. First by being hit by Chewie and second by Finn getting through to Ren's shoulder. Which made him go full on.
Plus, I think the reasons they are going to make for Rey being overpowered as fack is the fact she is "strong in the force"....and that's it.

I must respectfully disagree, Empire Strikes Back will always be the best IMO.

As for your post on Rey, I don't understand the dislike for her. She's 10/10 perfect, like Jennifer Lawrence before she became snobby. Yeah, she's kind of Mary Sue, but Luke was pretty fucking Gary Stue in the OT.

Idk. I felt he nailed the whole confliction and "anger" thing perfectly. He was out of control, still young, didn't harness his power properly. He nailed the whole turning to the dark side thing about as well as you could in the Star Wars lore.

Again, better than Anakin ever was if you ask me. I liked Anakin's lust for power scenes in episode 2 a lot. It showed how he could turn. Always undermining his authority figures, thinking he was right, etc. It was the love bits to me that ruined him as a character. The other parts I thought the writing got right.
