I have a really nice, but oldish laptop (about 2007-2009 I think). It's a dell Inspiron. I love it to death, but it's too big to use as a portable laptop. As it is now its just a very low power, very mobile desktop. So I'm looking for a small laptop that I can use for college. For writing papers on the go and shit. Any suggestions?

And no, chrome books and macs are not options. Windows exclusively.

Last time I was there, Dell had a thing on their site where you could customise a computer for yourself.
Try taking a look at that?

Why not a Chromebook? They're cheap, light, and the battery lasts a long time. If you're just using it for school stuff, I don't see why not.

Funny the way you word it. It's not like I have that much money myself to spend on a machine such as a computer, but if it's a tool for my work and studies then I'd rather invest money into something powerful, and of a decent quality. Macs just work out of the box, and don't have any sorts of crapware to deal with.

True, or he can purchase something that is compatible with OS X and turn the laptop into a hackintosh to have the most benefit out of it... But it sounds like OP definitely needs Windows on it.

OP doesn't make it sound like he needs something really powerful. You can get a decent enough laptop just to take notes on, use MS Office and browse the internet for a fraction of the price a Macbook will cost you. I would strongly advise against getting one in OP's case.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
Find an ultrabook lol

Why not macs?

1. Too expensive
2. Unfamiliar with ui, and I don't want to relearn how to use a computer.
3. Too much stuff I don't really need. Garage band, Photoshop, that kind of thing.
4. I'd be using basically just Microsoft word or Google drive on it, so I might as well get a PC.

I would get a chrome book, except I like doing my work outside, so I want something that is more than a very expensive paperweight when I don't have wifi.

So you just need something cheap that you can take to college with you? Doesn't need to run any demanding software or games?

Yeah, as it is now, I have a laptop that does everything, including games, fine. Only problem is it's too big to carry around easily. (15.5" wide, about 10" deep). All I need is something smaller, (maybe, a foot wide?) that runs windows and has Microsoft word. I'd prefer windows 7 over 8, but beggars can't be choosers.
