Not to be confused with alphy or any other alpha.

maybe television shouldnt be run like a business, maybe try to make the highest quality content you can and sponsors shouldnt matter

sounds like a pipe dream, but we should try to achieve it so BS like this doesnt happen

So you're fine with the comments she made?
no, but that doesnt mean she should be fired and her show cancelled

esp. after she apologized
You're the star of the show. You literally carry its name and embody it in full. You go on and say dumb racist things online. This reflects very poorly on your employer who would be seen as not caring about their high profile representatives being racist in public. They definitely were not in the wrong to fire her.
Did you read what I said? The system shouldnt have to be "we need to keep our sponsors sponsoring us or else we as a business fail!" it shouldnt be where the business needs to have good PR to keep staying relevant, and even if you're the star of the show, whatever you say in your off time is up to YOU. Roseanne wasn't a representative in any way, she was an ACTRESS. Thinking she has to represent the company, or that the status quo of this is a positive thing, is why we keep getting bullshit decisions like this. Of course, in this climate, the company made the right move. But the climate isn't a good one, and should be changed.
I'm curious about the alternative then. This seems like a pretty logical thing that you can't get around. Companies are made up of and represented by people. These people can do good things and bad things. If high profile people at a certain company do shitty things in public, their bad behavior is negatively associated with the company. If the company doesn't do anything it will be seen as condoning it or being okay with that kind of behavior. How do you get around this? I don't see how you can change this system. Act like a hateful moron in public and there will be consequences for your actions. It's perfectly reasonable for this to extend to your work.
Dumb af

not even going to make my shitty night worse by getting into this, but if you look at how this whole situation ended and you think "good", or "too bad for everyone who got their career start/revitalization screwed over because of this, but still good!", then you're part of the problem

racism is bad, duh -- I'm sure roseanne's personal life and career were already over when she sent those tweets - the respectable thing to do is accept her apology, finish up any projects already in motion with her, then reassess if we still want her with us when those projects are done. But NO, we need a knee-jerk firing because we can't dare to look bad in front of sponsors, in front of social media!! We need to be as clean and perfect as we can, even if it means cancelling creative talent, or stifling the development of good tv shows! Because we're not in it to make good TV, we're in it for the bottom line. And if an actor is saying something that could make a sponsor pull out, that could make a bored 17 year old with too much time on their hands start an internet movement - then by God, quality television is secondary to that bottom line.

Yeah, the fucking system needs to be changed. You see no problem with this, you have your values in the gutter.
>this seems to be a logical and natural outcome, please explain how the system could realistically be changed
>"Dumb AF, you're part of the problem, you have your values in the gutter, not even going to get into this"

Class, this is a bad response even by your standards. Can you answer my question and actually give me an alternative to the current and pretty damn natural situation of "people/companies don't want to associate with bad people/companies who do shitty things in public" or is this just going to be more wailing about "the system" and how horrible it is? Regardless of the money, viewer counts and sponsorships involved, shitty people doing shitty things (usually) comes with consequences for them. This is no different.
okay, how about we take government ownership of the media industry, then subcontract out projects to networks & studios? If actors are government workers, they can get tenure, and far more rights in keeping their job even if they post racist shit on the internet. It's not a shitty thing in a public, it's an actress' personal opinion on a private social networking site. Have Twitter ban her, problem solved. Put the social pressure on them, not on the network that hires her. She's not their representative, that's such BS. Her job is to ACT, not to be a social messiah or chancellor.

My solution isn't perfect, but it's something far better than we have now. No, you shouldn't be taken off a project that affects thousands of people, and the legacy of a television universe, because of a racist tweet. What happens to all the characters now? Their futures are being wiped out of existence because of some petty IRL shit? No, that can't happen. Like I said, this is about where your values & priorities lie. Yours are in all the wrong places.

look at the response to her tweet

ABC is super powerful and titanic and they immediately cancelled everything about her so they wouldn't be taken down a notch in the world lol, her role as a person in society is more or less over because of this

racism has been eliminated my friend, but the era of fear and hate is more alive than ever.
