Should horses be allowed to travel on public roads?

So I was having my driving lesson earlier today, I was going down a moderately busy road and we came across a girl on a horse who was being spooked by the passing cars. My driving instructor was of the opinion that its time has passed, and we should no longer allow horses on public roads.

It wasn't as bad, however, as two parents walking along the side of a main road without a sidewalk with their baby in a pram and their dog.

This isn't New York where the sidewalks are crowded with people. It's the fucking suburbs. Hell, you could ride your bicycle on the sidewalks downtown if you wanted to, but I don't think anyone that isn't suicidal would want to ride a bike there in the first place.

Like I said, people on bicycles. Not motorcycles. I've got no problem with motorcyclists, except that Harley's can be surprising and annoying at times.

* bikers, and I'm canadian... there's quite the difference between the two, Bikers is a term generally used for motorcyclists, and the giant bearded dudes with the "mom" tattoos. the term cyclist is used for the elitist snobby assholes on their 6 speeds who think they're above the law because of their bicycles.

Ride them through fields, not just plod along the tarmac.

I used to have three shetlands, but before I could get to the suit of armour phase they went all funny and had to retire to the home for horses :l
Although I doubt a little pony could bear the weight of a hussar suit >.>

But dammit if there was actually anywhere to own/ride a proper draft horse and to dress up in some medieval suit of armour, I might actually leave the house occasionally <.<
