Really though, what are his notable fighting feats besides BTFOing Rhaegar at the Trident? He's a fantastic battle commander sure, but it's not really relevant considering this is a 1v1 fight.

Until GRRM elaborates on how good Howland Reed is I think Dayne is probably ASOIAF's best shot against Aragorn.

He probably was just looking to play Steward to Brandon or be married off to someone in the South.Also jousting tournies=/=real battles, as Catelyn tactfully put when she went to Renly's camp.
