OT: On the bright side, successful big budget movies raise the bar for special effects, and more importantly, help studios fund other films that may not be as successful.

I don't see why these movies are so heavily criticised.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, far from it, but you pay to see giant robots blowing stuff up, and that's exactly what you get.
