Is it coincidence that fewer posts and threads were made after the community decided that action should be taken against rampant shitposting and spam? No, I don't think so. Of course a website where people go ahead and spam the place up with threads lacking any discussion value will have more "activity". But only for so long. Unfettered shitposting is only fun to some, and even then only for so long. There's only so much entertainment to be gotten out of epic memeposting 24/7 and image spam.
Plus, quality > quantity.
