Update on the Cruze
Paid off before the Pandemic took effect, got my title in the mail today (luckily) shit wasn't easy so I got lucky, I had to dip into my savings which I wasn't originally going to do since I was going to drop a thousand every two weeks of getting paid, but Covid-19 changed all that. I still have my savings but its no longer as high as it was.

The only changes I've done to the car owning it was adding official foglights and having the dealer activate them for $250 way before this outbreak happened, along with the tires replaced and tints removed at a tint shop (previous owner tinted it too dark) Tires had to be replaced because I had a flat tire and I'm reaching 30,000 miles so they were due for a change anyway, I already rotated them once. New tires are much better and don't feel like shit while driving, too bad the rest of the car can't feel like that during performance. No I'm not replacing the engine because it defeats the purpose of the car's original design. Might as well as get another car rather than a beefy engine, plus this car's computer would sperg with a more powerful engine in it.

I won't be keeping it long term and I eventually plan on selling it and get a better car, preferably a used car and paying it via check instead of a loan. Not that this car wasn't used when I bought it since it was certified pre-owned, but you get the idea. Current value of my car is $15,000 but because of what it is, mileage and how many fucking issues the motherfucker has in general (maybe not my car exactly but the Cruze in general has a bad rep) I'm probably gonna get less out of its actual value because its a fucking Chevy.

Which the only thing I could get if I sell it is a Mazda NA Miata, there's not a chance in hell I'm going back to loans, car loans give me major anxiety. I hate being in debt. I'm very lucky and thankful that I managed to pay off a 6 year loan in 2 years. That shit wasn't easy. Despite what some of you might say, I'm actually proud of myself for working hard to rightfully own a car. I had no cosigner, didn't need it because my credit is excellent.

I need to learn to drive stick as well. Automatics suck when it comes to driving up a hill, heck automatics in general take away the driving experience and make you feel less in control. They might be convenient for not shifting, but that creates distractions. If everyone drove a manual transmission, no one would be able to text and drive.

https://lafinemotors.com/vdp/13688316/Used-1995-Mazda-MX5-Miata-w-Removable-Hardtop-for-sale-in-North-Hollywood-CA-91602?mode=photos

Thinking about picking this up as a second car whenever I have the money if I don't sell my first car, or if I do sell my first car, I sell it to this dealer and get this car instead. I've wanted the Miata since I was 5 and these cars are cheap to maintain and are modifiable as fuck. Plus this one is manual transmission and is allegedly a lot fun. Its not a very fast car, but that's okay, I don't need it to be a fast car. Though its faster than the $16,000 heep of shit I currently own and drive and is overall a better fucking car because it doesn't have bullshit like auto stop/start. Someone is likely going to buy this one before I even have the chance to get my hands on it anyway.

I'll be lucky if I ever find another Miata that's in great shape or at least decent shape like this one, since most seem to be trashed up and treated like crap. I still need to test drive this sucker at least once, but I'm positive I'll enjoy it.

Regardless if this is my next car or not, I need to learn stick. Last time I drove stick shift was when I was 12 (it was an empty parking lot and I was supervised, but at least I've had experience even if I was too young and wasn't much. I didn't even stall when I got the car moving until I saw a fence and hit the brake hard forgetting to get it out of gear. Obviously I was 12 but I'm an adult now and a far better driver compared to being a kid.)

Depends on the car, there are modern automatics that do shift faster than a standard transmission, its a matter of preference. Obviously when it comes to a Mazda Miata that car is better in stick than in an automatic.

But if you're going to refer to people as soy boy beta cucks for driving an automatic especially if its their first car, you have some serious mental issues.

You were probably joking but I'm not in the fucking mood for jokes, plus you're not even funny.

MX-5s are a good learning platform, they feel kinda like a Go-Kart to drive and even though they’re underpowered stock, they’re heaps of fun.

Removable Hardtops are pretty popular and a pricey option even by itself. I can’t view the listing but it sounds like a neat deal.

You’re in the US aren’t you? You should still be able to find a decent Toyota Corolla/Sprinter AE86 Twin Cam/4A-G swapped SR5 for a good price. They’re like $20k+ over here because of Initial D but seem to be reasonably priced stateside.

Oh btw I upgraded the rims a few months back. They’re only reps at the moment but they’re much better looking (and lighter) than Stock rims.

Rota P45R 18x9.5/10”. Feels much more planted/grippy around corners with the wider track. Hopefully one day I’ll get some LMGT4s.

I'm not a huge fan of the Toyota Coroller due to design but performance alone might get me sold on that car.

But the Mazda MX-5 Miata is a car I've wanted since I was 5. No joke. As for the listing, yeah I think its a neat deal and having the removable hard top despite it being another $1000 out of my pocket would at least protect the car from water damage.

I'd go to the dealer and check out this very car that I linked right now but because of this stupid Coronavirus shit I can't even do that. I have heard that a 90s Mazda Miata with automatic transmission is bad mainly because its 4 speed and you lose the fun factor with it as a result, but honestly I could end up getting that one too if I don't end up finding one that's manual assuming this car I linked gets sold. I'd still like to learn stick properly though, I've been told that I'd be better off with an automatic car either way because of how bad traffic is (pre covid-19) and that I'd get tired of driving stick really fast, Yeah I don't know about that, there are people who daily drive this car with a manual transmission and they don't seem to have a problem with it.

I have done some research on the Miata. I'm avoiding the 1990-1991 models due to the short nose crank that they have which breaks easily, I'm going after one that at least has duel air bags and power steering, so that eliminates me getting one with a 1.6 engine. Originally I was going to go 1992 and up, but now I think I'm gonna go 1994 and up. I may cap it at 1997 if I want one with popup headlights or not.

I'm not gonna get an ND Miata because that's $35,000 plus tax and other chargers, and its money I do not have, and the NC Miata is the least desirable. That leaves the NB and the NA Miatas, NA being the all time favorite, especially for modding.

NAs are cool, I’d avoid the 1.6 too, but more because it’s underpowered than anything else.

Honestly Manuals aren’t that bad. My daily has a really heavy twin plate clutch and even with that I don’t find stop-start traffic all that tedious. For a car with a more ‘standard’ setup you should be fine.

I do love that its a simple car to drive overall from what I'm hearing. From very little to no computer input, unlike my current car. The current car I drive is a fucking joke with it being all computerized and shit. Even though I did take a loan and paid off that loan, I blew $16,000 on that as my first car because that was the recommendation from friends and family, and granted I was with family when I bought the car to make sure I got a "good deal" Honestly this was debatable to say the least. Yeah the car gets me from point A to point B just fine and hasn't left me stranded yet, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its major frustrations and issues, for one unless its a 2019 Chevy Cruze, you can't turn off the auto stop/start system unless you BNR tune it, which will void your warranty and the dealership service center wouldn't even touch your car, the alternative (which is what I do) is put it on L6 but even that itself apparently is taking a risk on messing with the transmission.

This fucking car is anything but fucking simple and is a nightmare to work on by yourself. The Miata, everything is laid out in the engine bay, you can clearly see where everything is, The Cruze, its too fucking crowded in the engine bay and these eco-tech engines are a joke, not to mention the majority of them have had cracked piston issues, including mine before I became the owner of mine.

Also, whoever invented the auto stop/start system on cars to begin with is a major fucking asshole. That's probably the most dangerous system you can place on a vehicle.

You probably should put gas in, just in case in the event there is a gas shortage because of this insanity, plus that's a bad habit to let it get close to E from what I hear when it comes to car maintenance.

Then yet again, you have historically chosen a problematic car since the Chevy Camaro has a ton of leaks from what I heard. Granted so have I, but mine is a mess from its electronic standpoint.

The only good Chevy honestly is a Corvette, everything else is questionable. I for one am never getting another modern Chevy again. Next car I'm getting is going to be Japanese.

There's not going to be a gas shortage, you need to relax lmao. I've also have never had my car on E. I have a little more than a quarter tank right now.

I've driven my car 50k miles already and haven't had any issues at all.

I still want the Miata. Its not like I'm ever getting married or have kids, a two seater car for me is enough anyway. That and I also don't store enough shit in my current car, I honestly don't see when I will.

Fucking same lol. It’s been 3 and a half weeks. I get 350-400 km to a tank (~220-250 miles) and I’m not even halfway empty yet.

Is fuel really cheap right now for you guys too? With the exception of Diesel and E85 everything is hella cheap here.

I’m doing a GT-R Z-Tune body conversion soon, but I’m tempted to put that on hold to replace my Console Gauges (pic 1) with an MFD from a GT-R since there’s one for sale nearby and they’re hella rare (and an actual GTR is impossibly expensive rn)

console gauges
MFD

Thoughts? I’m in no rush either way. Certainly my bodywork needs attention, but it’s all going to be a slow process regardless and I’m in doubt over whether I’ll ever get an MFD for this price ever again.

The country's average is down to $2.00 I think but the California average is still at around $2.50-$2.60. I don't see the gas going below $2 because of the stupid gas tax we have.

I went driving around today because I haven't driven my car lately and used up all my remaining gas. I filled up my tank with $33 when it usually takes $55-$58.

I say you should swap the gauges to make your car look more modern. It will look cleaner and nicer compared to the clunkiness of the older style.

I did the same thing to my stereo and entertainment system when I had my Pontiac.

I agree the MFD itself adds a more modern touch. I should stop being on the fence about such things and just bite the bullet.

I’ll definitely be updating the Head Unit and speakers eventually too. GT-Rs with the existing MFD as well as one of those aftermarket touchscreens to replace the OEM head unit look tidy as fuck, so I’d love something like that for myself.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
I'm thinking of getting a wicker bill like this for my car to make it a little more aggressive looking, plus the black will match with my car's stripes.

Does it have a factory spoiler or is it bare to begin with? Ducktails are 👌
I got a factory spoiler, yeah. I’ve seen other cars like mine with the wicker bill and they look really nice.

If you know, you know.
There are some impressive wheelbarrows ITT. How do you people afford them? Loans or just saving for years? Were they new or used? How many previous owners? Are there mandatory vehicle inspections in the US to check for roadworthiness etc?

For me it was a combination of savings and a personal loan. It cost $10k in 2017. I’m finishing up repayments and even with interest the car has paid for itself, with Manual GT-T Coupes fetching $20-25k aud (not that I’m treating it as an investment lol). We only need a roadworthy certificate  for initial registration, but another may be needed if you let the registration lapse by 3 months or you get issued with a defect notice. (used - manufactured in 1998)

I got mine used, previous owner barely drove it and took good care of it. If I had any credit to my name and more money at the time I would have gone for the V8
