I rewatched this film a couple days ago, and I was reminded of how good it really is. Its age is definitely noticeable, but that in no way reflects negatively upon its quality or entertainment value.

Khan Noonien Singh is such a great villain, and Montalbán's performance and the various details of the character and his background reminded me of how disappointing I found Benedict Cumberbunch as Khan.

The acting isn't the best at times (Kirstie Alley is pretty bad), but when the film really needs to work on an emotional level, it does.

The Wrath of Khan is one of my favorite movies, and I decided to purchase it on Blu-Ray today, making it one of the few films I own a physical copy of.

Have the entire movie collection on BD, and I still find Benedict Cumberbatch did an excellent job as Khan. I also think Benedict would make a great Thrawn should they choose to include the character in any of the new movies.

Honestly I don't like Bernito Cabbagepatch. He has a weird slim baby face and I think he was a terrible choice to play a character named Khan Noonien Singh.

He was much more simplistic than the original Khan. The Khan from TOS was noted to not be a complete asshole. He was called the "best of the tyrants" by Kirk, as he was a despot but did not abuse his people or commit senseless violence. He was noted to have many positive qualities. The reason he is so violent in The Wrath of Khan is because he has had to endure a nightmare for 15 years; it is understandable that he has emerged from this experience somewhat unhinged.

New Khan is just generic. The "noble tyrant" take on the character is gone, replaced by generic space Hitler figure who committed genocide. The character's style and flair is all gone.

As to Thrawn, I would prefer that Lars Mikkelson, the actor who voices him in Rebels, portray a live action Thrawn. Cumberpatch just strikes me as "Benedict Cumberbatch" in every role he plays, and it doesn't help that Thrawn-esque characters are 90% of his roles. He wouldn't be Thrawn, he would be Bernito Cumbernauld.

Spock's death and funeral still make me misty eyed

Me too.

I don't hate his name, I just find it funny to deliberately spell it incorrectly.

I think that people really like him as Sherlock Holmes and because of that show's popularity he gets cast in roles that either don't fit him (Khan) or just entail him playing the same character he does in much of his work.
