Fuck off I'm still going through that phase of bitterness and I will have a go at anyone praising the game

Now you just battle a couple easy pokemon and a boss mon. Occasionally there's a battle with the leader of the island. Kind of a disappointing departure, but it's at least something new.

you probably over-leveled/relied on super effective moves, common with filthy casuals

I didn't grind at all and I never used Z-moves. I did struggle on some later fights against trainers, but never on the trials. Pokemon's not about difficulty, but I did enjoy working through trainers and taking my somewhat weakened team to the gym leader for an extra challenge.

gen 3 is probably the best in terms of monster designs

I'd agree with you to the extent of declaring that Festival Plaza and the lack of a good grinding spot are major problems with the game
