If people have fun doing it leave them alone and let them. It's not like they're actually hurting anybody by doing it.
No, it physically pains me when people do such stupid, wasteful shit for fun.

If you're over 18, LARPing is not okay.

Hell, it's barely even okay at any age.

I've done DnD if that counts. This avatar was originally for it during my high school days.

Wasteful only applies to one's point of view though. To them their time couldn't be spent any better otherwise.

Humor on the side here, if you're physically in pain from watching people enjoy their lives, then that's solely all on you.

And you should consider looking into Life Alert for when you inevitably fall over and can't get up from said anurisms.

Fat unhealthy nerds getting outside for some exercise don't seen so bad me. Gets the creative juices flowing too. Way better than sitting at home on their computer, or watching animu.

That's actually a decent way at looking at it.
Except for the stereotypical fat nerd but beside that good way.

I actually see it the other way around. Most "nerds" I know are actually tiny. Poor malnourished things, oreos and red bull are not a meal.

I've never done it. Have seen it done and looks like it could be fun. No hate towards people who do it, like someone else in this thread said, "its kind of like airsoft".

Then they should do it more frequently.

If you participate in LARPing there's a good chance you have autism.

I just looked up "larp costumes" on google.

Holy fucking shit some of the costumes look like they could actually defend a real blade.

I used to larp. My friends and I were some of the only teens there. Most of them there were marines and paramedics and it was a lot of fun. The plot was always exciting and new. We used boffers (pvp pipe, foam and gaff taped swords), bows and arrows, and spell packets. I was an assassin and pretty good at sneaking up and assassinating people when needed. I usually was on the outskirts of the larger battles because my stats were pretty low. There are about 300+ people who go to the LARP I went to. It was also a 3 day event every month and three 4 day events every year. I stopped going a loooong time ago.

I honestly have to ask now.

With 300+ people, what was the average age, weight and attitude there?

If you're really that dissatisfied with your life that you want to go to a convention and pretend to be someone else, you might as well kill yourself

You're already dead inside
LARPing isn't necessarily done at conventions, but yes the entire point of a Role Playing Game is to take on a different persona.

I mean
That's cool if you wanna pretend to be Wolverine and go around smashing shit every once in a while

But if you take the time to craft a persona with costumes and shit, that's weird
I've never really considered it odd to adopt new mannerisms when a situation asks for it, but that's a different situation than RPing in a conventional way. The only RPing I've done is in D&D campaigns. Perhaps that still makes me weird in your eyes.
I can see where you're coming from, though

But it's a situation you yourself create to out of some mental dissatisfaction with your own life
This assumption is incorrect.
There's utility in using different personas to get what you want.

Well there has to be some mental dissonance if you derive pleasure from escaping your life and entering someone else's

And I'm talking about LARPing

Board games and video games are different because you're placing yourself in a situation to see what you would do or exploring what a character would do in that situation
Whereas LARPing is trying to become someone else

At least that's how I see it

Can you really blame them though?

We live largely in a society that makes life shit. It's no wonder there's so much lean towards escapism nowadays.

Well I mean
Yes you can blame them lol

If you want to make your life better, make it better
You are completely free to do so

Yeah, see, that's the thing. Our generation wasn't exactly brought up with the notion of living to be happy, or doing what makes us happy as the forefront of our concern.

The primary life goal pushed was getting a job/degree, and making money. Our generation wasn't instilled with any sort of backbone to stand up for themselves. Nor were they ever taught how.

I can't blame people for something they're foreign to.

No
Being happy has always been what parents wanted for their children

It's just how to get there that has changed

Today, children are told that they can do whatever they want, say whatever they want to say and anyone who tells them otherwise is immediately ostracized and labeled a hater

They're raised in an environment that tells them "your feelings matter"
And they are given unearned praised and dissolved of any responsibility

So it no longer becomes a matter of doing something to change your own situation
It becomes a matter of changing everything else around you so that your situation sucks less

Dank memes coming through.
I mean, I'd try it once just for the hell of it.  But to be honest, I'd actually like to learn how to properly use a sword and take classes for it.  Also, my bucket list consists of one day purchasing a zweihander of my very own.
