The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Blade Runner 2049

There's SO many movies I still need to see, but for now, I'm thinking Gone Girl. I've seen BR2049, and it was pretty sick, but my problem with sequels is that, as good as they can be, they're unavoidably saddled with contextuality, whereas I tend to prefer films that can completely stand alone.

I don't watch TV, but Devilman Crybaby was pretty awesome (as far as anime goes). The only other non-animated show I've seen all the way through from this decade was Breaking Bad, which was quite enjoyable albeit overrated as fuck (and it's what everyone else is going to say anyway). I can't even say Marble Hornets, because it started in 2009.

As for albums, I'm gonna tentatively go with The Powers That B. It's not the most culturally significant album by any means, but it means a lot to me personally, and I'm among a rare few that happens to love both discs equally.

For video games, I think I'm actually gonna go ahead and say Dark Souls. There certainly have been plenty of games that I've scored higher, like Undertale and Breath of the Wild, but the only reason for that is because I think Dark Souls has the worst multiplayer of all time, and if there wasn't an option to play it offline, I'd consider it a straight-up bad game. But you can play it offline, so I'm able to appreciate one of the most artfully crafted and viscerally satisfying action-adventure games ever made. Breath of the Wild is too new and too flawed, despite tickling many of the same spots that Dark Souls does, and Undertale's cringeworthy sense of humor doesn't help its chances (as amazing and important as the game is, do I really want my GotD to have jokes like "Tsunderplane" in it? No, no I don't).

I'm gonna seize the 2020s. I'm gonna try consuming as much crap in the artosphere as I can, and hopefully contribute some of my own as well.

Movies: 1 + 1. Granted that's the only film of this decade I've watched and enjoyed.
TV series: haven't seen any
Anime: Mardock Scramble, I guess, idk.
Game: played too many games, not played enough games
Music: there is way too much I've listened
Visual novel: Va11Hall-A, sorry Kagetsu Tohya, but you are 18 years old
Light novel: The Empty Box and Zeroth Maria. Granted that's the only light novel I've read so far.
Books: haven't read any

Conclusion: this decade is shit and we never going to have nice things, except music and games I guess.

I do get the sense that this was a weaker decade than the 2000s and 1990s. Especially for non-indie games.

Films are hard, because I don't really watch many. When I go to the cinema it's normally for a Star Wars film or the main Avengers films. I'm not really sure what I'd put as my top film of the decade, but some of my favourite films this decade have been Django Unchained, Baby Driver, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Coco, The Last Jedi, and Into the Spiderverse.

In terms of overall quality, definitely Better Call Saul. I can find very few faults with that show. But I also have to mention The Walking Dead. Although its quality varies (despite its most recent season being pretty great), I've been following it through my teenage years into early adulthood so it's become a sort of defining part of the past decade for me. It'll feel very weird when it is gone but I'll probably still be watching it even when it's on Season 40 and its viewership has dropped to about 5 people.

I don't pay attention to albums so nothing there.

As for games, overall I think I'd say Fallout: New Vegas. It has many flaws but even nearly a decade later I can still come back to it at any time and enjoy it just as much as I did years ago, and I feel that it offers a completely different experience compared to other open-world RPGs and even other Bethesda-style games. Honourable mentions would be The Witcher 3 (which I still need to finish), Red Dead Redemption 2, Undertale and The Walking Dead. Also for similar reasons to The Walking Dead TV Series, Destiny 2 is another one of my games of the decade, I think I've played more of it than any of the other games. And also it's really good now.

Interstellar or Bladerunner 2049 or maaaaaaaaaybe Rogue One but thats a distant maybe

The Expanse

...Like Clockwork by QoTSA (my thought was Simulation Theory by Muse but i don't feel like its really been out long enough to fairly compare, plus a lot of my love for the album comes from the concert I went to as well)

Titanfall 2 or DOOM or Stellaris

I just really like stuff with good space aesthetics

Edit: Oh I forgot Halo Reach counts as 2010s, I'd probably consider that as my game actually

Movie of the Decade: Blade Runner 2049

I struggled coming up with much for this category. It does seem like there's less to choose from compared to previous decades. Not saying that the movies were worse, just safer.

Doesn't look like anyone's going to disagree with me on this one. 2049 ticked all the boxes for me and was the first movie in a while where I felt blown away while walking out. It kind of surprises me that it's become so popular on this forum: I saw it in an empty theater and two people in my party fell asleep through it.

Some of the other movies I could have listed were the Social Network, Inception, Django Unchained, the Wolf of Wall Street, and Nightcrawler.

Series of the Decade: Mr. Robot

I’m not sure if Breaking Bad even counts since it started in the previous decade but I still like Mr. Robot better, regardless. This seems like a show that everyone was raving about back in 2015 and subsequently forgot about; which surprises me because season 1 is an almost beat-for-beat ripoff of a very popular movie, whereas the next two seasons are more original while maintaining the same level of quality.

Breaking Bad is easily my second favorite show of all time and I don't think much else can compete. Every list on the internet has the same exact shows listed as the best (I just haven’t seen Sopranos or the Wire). BB is still the only show I've watched that finished without there being a significant dip in writing quality.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare miniseries’ with long-running shows, because we can see how many shows these days go downhill after only one season, so I'll say that Chernobyl and True Detective S1 are tied for best miniseries. I just started watching Better Call Saul last night, and it's pretty good so far.

Album of the Decade: no clue 🙈

Game of the Decade: Grand Theft Auto V

Like with albums, I don’t have much insight on this topic. It’d be like a guy that’s casually watched a handful of movies picking the best one.

I personally judge games by how much time I got out of it for the price. So games that I played for a couple days and never touched again are at the bottom. In this regard, both of Rockstar’s games stand out above all others. The Rockstar games have a massive amount of content and seem to have the longest playthroughs of any games.

I liked Red Dead 2’s story better but the multiplayer was pretty bad when I tried it. Despite all the criticism it got, I loved GTA Online and kept going back for years. I thought the game modes were really fun and not at all grindy like everyone said they were. I’m sure the only reason they did it was so kids would keep buying those shark cards (in game currency) but I personally never bought those and I really appreciated how GTA Online was updated for years and for free.

I'd like to give the Witcher 3 another try, since it's pretty widely regarded as one of the best. I've tried to play it a couple times but got overwhelmed. Aside from that, I just played through Dark Souls III for the first time a couple days ago, which is probably my favorite From Software game and the only one I've beaten. Trying to decide if I want to go to NG+ or buy Serkiro. I'll also give Skyrim an honorable mention.

It had to compete with It which absolutely annihilated the box office, and its marketing campaign was absolutely abysmal. I think I saw maybe one Facebook trailer and that mini YouTube snippet with Jared Leto, and that's only because I was really anticipating this movie and was clued in on its development. Plus I don't think its runtime helped appeal to the brainlet normies so it's not really a shock to me why it performed so poorly.

I find it hilarious how no one's mentioned GoT as a whole.

Had the potential to be legendary tier and would have made my list had it not utterly shat the bed post season 5.

I thought about it but at this point I identify the show more by season 5 onwards than the seasons preceding it which really sours things for me. Watching the previous seasons is made less enjoyable knowing that it all amounts to a dumpster fire in the end anyway.

Actually the more I think about it the more I realise the 2010s was actually a really shitty decade for TV.

2000s had Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood and The Wire as its hallmarks of television . Absolute peak kino TV.

Excluding miniseries and standalone seasons the 2010s really only has GoT as its decade definer, if we're going by the metric of cultural impact. I probably wouldn't even count BB because it kicked off at the back end of the 2000s.

Blade Runner 2049 might be my favorite film tbh.

Album: Bowie's Blackstar I suppose

TV show: I never watched GoT personally. This one is hard to decide upon.

Game: Difficult to decide. I think New Vegas?

I'm not gonna bother beating the "post S5 it goes downhill" horse but what I will say is that you can watch seasons 1 through 3, then come up with your own fantatistical fan theory to its ending and it'll still be better than what we got. Would save you the inevitable disappointment.

For all the shit we talk about it, when it does peak it's ultra kino. Shame it was run into the ground by a duo of incompetents.

The Season 4 finale kinda works as a series finale anyway, most of the characters end up in the same or very similar positions at the end of Season 8 as they do around this point in the series.
