I'm not big into romance, but I'd suggest Spice and Wolf, Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, The Wrold God Only Knows(watch it), Ah! My Goddess and Clannad.

There should be at least one in there you haven't seen.

Amagi Brilliant Park has romance in it, it's currently airing.
The Devil is a Part-Timer has some romance too.
Both are also excellent comedies.

I thought Sankarea was pretty enjoyable.

I liked it, but they left it kind of a cliffhanger, and a lot unexplained.

I think they explained enough about the MC's dead mother, if that's part of what you mean.

More like if they found a cure, and the zombie hunting girl that showed up at the end.
