In a dorm, make sure you have/make friends, or you'll probably end up depressed which will impact your studies.Although, being close enough to live at home is great, not much change and you stay comfortable in your personal environment, rather than going through a period of adjusment.
Depends on the distance, your financial situation, if you have a job, etc, really.
Dorms are shit

From the age of 16 (my 19th birthday was last April) until last summer I was all alone so I could probably do it again.

A lot of people go to uni just for the experience. And by that I mean partying. Its the main reason why I'm going to be moving out.
