"Boring" is probably the last word I'd use to describe it.

Quote from: Winy on October 03, 2015, 05:33:14 PMBased on the amount of positive feedback I'd heard about the film, I expected to be blown away. But I really, honestly wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was good. But a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes? Glorious action scenes (Admittedly some of the best I've ever seen) don't compensate for weak characters and a very boring plot to me. It was like a 7/10 film for me, mostly forgettable. The plot was there to hold the action together, and it did what it set out to do just fine. It wasn't trying to be a plot-heavy film, and George Miller has already shown he can make a movie like that anyway. It was an objectively close to perfect movie because it did what it set out to do perfectly.

Quote from: Winy on October 03, 2015, 06:11:43 PMI'm not really one to get into arguments about film and television, because there's so much subjectivity. I'll just say I did not feel invested in any of the characters at all, and did not find the plot particularly interesting. The civilization and how it survived was more interesting to me than the prospect of escaping it.I'm just saying you're going into the movie with the wrong expectations and that's why you were disappointed.

Quote from: Winy on October 03, 2015, 06:15:16 PMI was told it was "The best action film in years," and that's what I went in expecting.Yup. That's exactly what it was in objective terms. It wasn't trying to tell an amazing story, it wasn't trying to pretend to be something it isn't, it was trying to be a fun action movie. That's what you should have been expecting, especially if you had seen the previous Mad Max films, because even the first one, which is the most plot-heavy one, doesn't have much of an impressive plot. What you went in expecting was a really great action movie that also had a good story, but that wasn't what you should have been expecting, and that's why you were disappointed. But the characters were pretty good as far as I'm concerned. The plot was simple and was just there to carry the action along.
I was told it was "The best action film in years," and that's what I went in expecting.
