Don't remind me of the futility of changing opinions on the Internet >.>

Well, like, I guess 'thing' in this case needs to be non-fictional. You can't sue Santa Claus, because there's nothing to sue--he doesn't exist.
potential people are also non-fictional
if you impregnate a woman, she will get pregnant--and if she waits nine months, she will have a baby
(unless you do something about it)

but let's not get into that

anyways, you don't have to support me becoming a mod or whatever, i don't care
i just don't really agree with your reasons, and i think all of my current flaws are improvable

Well, you can't really ask that person 'do you want to abort your baby'. One can never get more than a hypothetical answer from a hypothetical person.

i think all of my current flaws are improvable
Erm, yeah, I think that's the big takeaway for anyone reading this.

Emphasis on "religiously." Extreme adherence to things tends to not go well.

Even when you're adhering to the rules set forth by this community and its moderators?

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
Emphasis on "religiously." Extreme adherence to things tends to not go well.

Even when you're adhering to the rules set forth by this community and its moderators?

There are (very rare) situations that call for looking at situations from beyond the scope of the rules - perhaps its a situation that isn't covered, or it's extreme circumstances.

It doesn't make sense without the rest of the post. Any answer this hypothetical person would give could only ever be that--hypothetical. There's no objective way to get an answer.

Any answers someone would reach would incorporate assumptions and/or feelings on the matter.

Alright, but what does that have to do with Verbatim's potential to "follow the rules too much"?

Likely nothing. Just clarifying a point that people seem to overlook or not understand.

In all honestly, I wouldn't care if Verb was made a mod. I like diversity.

I neither fear, nor despise.
Verbatim's apparent desire to religiously enforce to the rules if given power, would be liabilities.
A moderator that follows and enforces our rules? How awful.
i think he means that i would be draconian

i would punish people without any forethought

which isn't true, but i think that's what he meant
maybe, kind of, partly >.>

Regarding rule enforcement: From what I remember as a monitor, the rules are more loosely/questionably enforced than one would think. There was a point where I stopped doing much on my own, because there'd be a good chance that what the rest of the staff would do was very different from whatever I'd reason after talking it over with Kits. I figured it was safer to just point stuff out and let someone else handle it.

I can't really see you enjoying something like that whatsoever. Honestly, I'm a bit like you in that I like having a set of solid, consistent rules to govern logic. You won't find that on the staff.
Thank you for bringing this up. This right here is another problem that's always been there with the current (and last couple iterations of) rules and is one reason why it seems to be so inconsistent which certain people have brought up.
Interpretation is very present a lot of times.
That's a reason many past staff members didn't work out.

yeah but the hypothetical question should be towards the unborn
(e.g. "do you want to be aborted")

that's why i was confused

but yes, you're right--we can only assume their response
which is precisely why we don't have the right to assume that their answer would be "yes"

choosing to have the abortion wouldn't be assuming the answer is "no"--inaction doesn't work like that
i know my sister probably wanted some coffee this morning, but i didn't buy any for her

it's not because i assumed she didn't want any--i know very well that she likes her coffee in the morning

i just couldn't be assed

It's a moot point because, as has been pointed out:
i think all of my current flaws are improvable
Though there's historical evidence, there's really nothing to go on that he's actually done those ehhh things while on the staff.

As I understand, that doesn't quite apply to either of you, but I'm not at liberty to elaborate (nor would I be able to).

But I feel like we can't quite assume an answer would be 'no', either. I figure this is the gray-area part where one's ethics come into play.

I have a weird sense of accomplishment now. >.> your anti-natalism is less mysterious than before. I'm satisfied.

Just saying in general. The site is easier to moderate at certain  times when compared to others due to the clarity of the rules.

I'll say this regarding the interpretation issue over the rules

The average user of sep7agon is, believe it or not, actually smarter than the average mouthbreather in the street.
To put it more bluntly, there are a bunch of clever little bastards on this site who find every loophole under the sun and then make some more in the process. If we adhered to some absolutely concrete rules with no flexibility, the mods would end up either going full nazi (not hyperbole, you'd have to crackdown like full blown goosesteppers and thus kill the site) or they'd have rings run around them by the smart little gobshites on here.

We have to be able to adapt the rules a little now and then to make sure that people don't get away with being a cheeki breeki.

In short: black and white thinking is utterly useless

I feel like if that were true, half of the 12-page debates you've had wouldn't have happened.
what you get in a lot of those arguments is a bunch of people (at least ten) who end up asking the same questions that were asked pages and pages ago--when i say unpopular stuff people don't agree with, i tend to get dogpiled

it's just what happens--and that's why i end up repeating myself so often

this speaks nothing of my ability to actually "elaborate my rationale"
What's the definition of insanity? Trying the same thing over and over hoping for different results?

Kupo you're better than this

And trying something over again and expecting new results is a totally valid move in real life lol
