Actually way better than I thought. I've always liked the TWD universe, the idea that zombies never appeared in fiction and that everyone is already infected, and I play the Telltale games a lot. But I never liked the base show for some reason, and I think that reason is the characters.

So starting fresh with a new show, same universe, but different characters was a sigh of relief for me. And I know it's gotten plenty of criticism, but I thought it was pretty good.

I'm also really glad that, out of TWD fashion, most of the best characters actually lived.

Spoiler

fucking alive

Spoiler

also fucking alive

Spoiler

what the fuck, writers

you don't take a character this great and only have her on for two and a half fucking episodes

oh well

two out of three aint bad

I might actually review this show sometime, but I've definitely enjoyed it so far

The second character has the voice of god.

Not really into TWD, but I like him quite a bit.

Spoiler
He's gay.

Travis seems like a better father figure than Rick.

I can't stand the fucking show.

TWD

FTWD

The giant disparities are one thing (TWD being gritty and FTWD being a joke, that isn't serious in the slighest)
but there are so many other problems, like the lack of a budget, there was a scene near the end of s1, where the Soldiers are firing at a horde of zombies, no special effects what so ever, it's as if they are just pointing at the zombies, and the zombies have no affect either, they don't take any damage, or even react to being shot, it's pure imagination. Not to mention random interment camps that literally have no purpose when they just kill prisoners randomly... or Even worse, One problem that I had with 343's Master Chief was the bullshit explanation of Nanites in CrySleep, it was totally bullshit, they shoved it into a book before release, and expected everyone to accept that, but in this you now have bullshit zombie bites, this happens at the end of season 1, a character who clearly wasn't bitten, says, oh well I'm bitten time to die. She wasn't bitten, she was in the most safe area, and when she wasn't she was shown on camera, there is no way she could of been bitten. I was able to get through the Bull shit of Season 1, but I just couldn't stand Season 2. So I stopped half way.

TWD has never been about action, big zombie fights or a high budget. It's about the characters and what they do to survive. The zombies are background dressing.

Definitely. Travis is one of the most complex and well-written characters in TWD history, but I don't really like him that much.

An important distinction to make

I'm thinking of just buying the season on Amazon, I don't want to have to wait for it to go on Hulu

I love you, son.
TWD has never been about action, big zombie fights or a high budget.
Erm if anything, the show REALLY needs a higher budget.
And it's had a few big zombie fights in the past which it's handled exceptionally well. (Beside the Dying Fire,  No Way Out).

Budget is a borderline non issue with good dramas; sharp writing and character development are the most important things. The big action sequences are cool and all, but only exist narratively to further the plot. I've only seen the characters in FTWD for 6 episodes, and yet they're far more engaging and memorable than the regular show's characters were for the first two seasons. That's what's important in good TV.

idk if you've seen season 6 of TWD or not but there were a few things that really highlighted how low the budget is.

she did tell me not to interfere

It's a shame that episode 4 of s2 completely invalidated all of your choices

I still think one of the worst moves in S2 was killing off Pete so early

he had so much potential as a character, think about some confrontation between him and kenny

He was a pretty great character.

Also the way they killed Nick off in episode 4 was fucking stupid. Might as well not have had him be a determinant character. Same with Sarah.

I also thought the Kenny/Jane conflict was pretty forced. Kenny/Luke had a lot of foreshadowing and buildup so that would have been better and for me, a much harder choice. Meanwhile the Kenny vs. Jane thing only really started in episode 5.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I think bmx way overstayed his welcome. Disliked him in S1 and hated him in S2. At least he was a walking meme in the first season.

Telltale always does bad with the choices with big effects. It's like they don't want to waste money by putting in a bunch of stuff not everyone will see, so they half ass it and just write in foregone conclusions. The subtle stuff like Clem swearing or not based on Lee's words is cool, but I wish they would put more effort into the big things.

Judging by Tales from the Borderlands and the Game of Thrones finale, they seem to be improving in that aspect. Particularly with Game of Thrones.

They really need to get a new engine too. The current one is like 10 years old and its buggy as fuck.

I'm not the biggest Borderlands fan and TftB is easily one of my favourite Telltale series. A lot more light-hearted in tone but with some emotional moments, and the characters are all very likable.

As for GoT, it's one of Telltale's worse series but the finale episode has a lot of determinant characters and choices that are going to affect the next seasons pretty significantly, it seems.

Not particularly. It has some characters from the other games but it doesn't require any previous knowledge, IIRC.  The game tells you everything you need to know when you start.

Awesome, I'll have to check that one out, then
