The framework of the film was originally shot as a psychological indie horror film titled "The Cellar" with a budget of about $5 million (the original Cloverfield film cost about $25 million just for comparison). Paramount picked up on it and slapped the Cloverfield name on in what can only be described as a genius business move designed to save a dying indie film from completely bombing at the box office.

This is pretty much why it was able to stay in the dark for so long. If you plan on going in to this film with expectations of a direct sequel or serviceable spin off to the Cloverfield universe you're probably going to be severely disappointed. Expect about 2 hours worth of scenes set in a basement and then about 10 minutes of Syfy tier CGI action at the end. Shady as shit move on behalf of Paramount tbqfh.

I never planned on getting my hopes up, the premise of the movie is dull and something I've seen plenty of times before, I'm only hoping that at least 25% of the movie is spent outside the shelter.

The changes made to the script in order to tie it into Cloverfield were negligible if not non-existent.

Now with that being said, I'd still be hyped for it even if it wasn't tied to Cloverfield. We need more movies that aren't rehashes of books or older movies, and I can't remember the last time I watched a Misery-type movie since....well, Misery. The only difference being this one isn't based off a book (which as I stated above, is an instant plus).
