The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Tolkien is great at world-building but is a very poor storyteller. Too much extraneous information and masturbatory use of made-up languages and written songs. He's absolutely an incredible writer and arguably the most important fantasy writer in history, but I just find the trilogy immensely unsatisfying.

The Hobbit's my jam, though.

I just think a long story driven by interior monologue is a poor manner to tell the tale; personally, I think it can wonders in short-stories, but listening to an individual's thoughts for an entire book? pls no

same reason I don't like Catcher in the Rye. I can relate to Holden a lot, although it gets tiresome reading his angst-ridden thoughts.

I hated it when I was reading it for school, but now I don't. It's a great book IMO.

Yeah, that cookbook was pretty crappy. The Life of Pi was great though.
