Is your trash your property?

I saw a homeless person going through people on my street's recycling bins. She was carefully taking out all of the glass and cans. A guy came out and yelled to get out of his property.

Now the bins were on a public street and she wasn't making a mess.

Was he correct?

The guy giving shit was a bit of a tool though. I doubt the garbage can was his and if it was on the sidewalk then it wasn't even on his property. But I'd consider it rather impolite to go rooting around in somebody's trash can in broad daylight though.

Guy's dumb for giving shit and the scrounger should have upped her game and simply showed up at night instead.

If the can's on your street it's not your property and anyone can go through it. If it's still in your yard then it is.
