Probably depends on what you do with the feeling.

Maybe you just a pessimist and want people to feel the pains of the world.

No, and yes. A pessimist just sees the glass half empty.

And maybe he is one, and he feels people are blind when they do not see what is wrong with the world. Therefore he feels they need to feel the pain and the problems of this world, or else they are ignorant to the world.

Or maybe he just is salty of everyone else having fun.

a pessimist acts like the glass is half empty. which is the most pragmatic position to hold. youre always prepared for the worst. study some more philisophy pls.

that being said i dont think that has any bearing on how you would react to someone else being depressed.

that's actually pretty close to how i feel, but that has little to do with my being a pessimist

even if i were an optimist, i'd feel the same way

A pessimist just sees the worst in everything, or expects the worse will happen. That is the basic definition.

You can be pragmatic about it but I have seen people who just see the worse in everything and are not pragmatic. Now you are right that pessimist are more prone to being pragmatic, but how one will react is unknown as everyone is always an exception to the rule.

Also some pessimist are weirdly more optimistic.

thats not what a pessimist is, thats just someone being negative. the definition has been altered because people are fucking stupid. dont conflate the two.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/pessimist
Exact definition. A person who habitually sees the worst or is gloomy.

Quote
pes·si·mist
ˈpesəməst/Submit
noun
1.
a person who tends to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen.
"the pessimists point to ways in which life has deteriorated"
synonyms:   defeatist, fatalist, prophet of doom, cynic, doomsayer, doomster, Cassandra; More
2.
PHILOSOPHY
a person who believes that this world is as bad as it could be or that evil will ultimately prevail over good.
"he finds solace in the writings of pessimist philosophers"

Now your point of them being pragmatic, basically says that pessimist are more likely to be realistic and better able to take on hard times.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/pessimism

None of the definition say that pessimist are prepared for the worst. If anything adding a dose of cynicism makes you more prone to prepare for the worst, and resist tales.

Now I am not sure where you are getting your definition from but I sourced my answers.

You are right it seems when it comes to philosophical pessimism, my only issue is trying to fully understand it as there are multiple points about it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pessimism

Like how it is a loose group of ideas around the concept, but the main points are as follows:

Quote
"that time is a burden; that the course of history is in some sense ironic; that freedom and happiness are incompatible; and that human existence is absurd.

Philosophical pessimists see the self-consciousness of man as bound up with his consciousness of time and that this leads to greater suffering than mere physical pain.

Basically the view is that although the world seems to be getting better, they deny that any improvement has actually occurred.

Quote
The pessimistic view of the human condition is that it is in a sense "absurd". Absurdity is seen as an ontological mismatch between our desire for meaning and fulfillment and our inability to find or sustain those things in the world, or as Camus puts it: "a divorce between man and his life, the actor and his setting"

As well it seems this philosophical viewpoint goes in contrast to the view of Socrates who is the basis of Western optimistic philosophy, where rational thought would lead to humans "flourishing".

Now how you approach it seems to diverge.
Quote
The responses to this predicament of the human condition by pessimists are varied. Some philosophers, mainly Schopenhauer, recommend a form of resignation and self-denial (which he saw exemplified in Indian religions). Some followers tend to believe that "expecting the worst leads to the best." Rene Descartes even believed that life was better if emotional reactions to "negative" events were removed. Others like Nietzsche, Leopardi and Camus respond with a more life-affirming view, what Nietzsche called a "Dionysian pessimism", an embrace of life as it is in all of its constant change and suffering, without appeal to progress or hedonistic calculus. Albert Camus indicated that the common responses to the absurdity of life are often: Suicide, a leap of faith (as per Kierkegaard's knight of faith), or recognition/rebellion. Camus rejected all but the last option as unacceptable and inauthentic responses.
