As I said, the older the model (As in, say an iPod from 2011/2012) is going to run slower with each new update, as the technology is not as advanced as is required for what is needed to run the operating system as it should be.

While you can do it if you really want to, it's a shitty idea because the technology in the phone is out of date - it's not going to run the system properly, it's going to lag, and likely crash. There are ways to rig it so that it works slightly better, but it would be like buying a Dell Laptop from 2005 and trying to install Windows 8 on it. You may get lucky and have it install, but it won't work as functioned.Apple only cuts off support for the older devices once it is absolutely impossible for them the run the newest software, and once a huge majority of third-party app developers have abandoned the platform.
