Which I don't mind, I like the idea that Vader could totally kick his ass without even trying. In regards to the lightsaber, I'm pretty sure they flat out state that he's compensating for his lack of skill, and he needs a special gimmicky lightsabar to do things that say, Darth Maul, could do on his own.
