So it's not okay for Humans, who are animals, to eat other animals that also eat other animals?
you're young and you haven't had sufficient time to think about this sort of thing
but i implore you to do consider it a little bit more deeply than that
I'm not five, I've had plenty of time to think about a lot of things in life.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
Honestly, we should take the violent criminals in prison and just kill them, cook them up, and feed them to the starving kids in Africa and shit.
You're implying that Africans are worth the effort.

you have no proof that they would overpopulate

"The world as will is the objective matter the universe is made up of and we are but simply an extension of the will as is every other living creature so in that respect we are no different from all animals for we are all the same extension of the will."
I'm kind of having difficulty following. Is this saying that all desires felt by all creatures are equal and destroying said desires is immoral? Or is it saying that because X desire exists in the universe, that is the universe's divine will for it to exist and it should not be disobeyed. Because the latter is retarded.

Overpopulation would definitely happen if we got rid of all the carnivores.

Herbivores would produce too much and with no carnivores to kill them and keep the population stable, the herbivore numbers would grow.

Sure, some herbivores kill each other, but not enough to keep the population stable.

Come on guys, if there isn't enough food to sustain inflated populations, they will eventually balance themselves out through starvation and famine. Additionally, minor or less numerous lifeforms that feed on different plant matter will thrive, perhaps even ushering in a new era of dominance over the previous mammalian age.

I for one welcome our new algae eating insect overlords.

I'm in full agreement with the philosophy behind Veganism. I've also come to accept that I simply don't have enough willpower to stop eating meat. That being said, I've made efforts to cut down on eating animal products as best I can. I don't live on my own yet, so unfortunately I don't have the choice to outright stop allowing meat in my house. I honestly doubt I'll be able to cut it out of my diet, even when I'm older, but that doesn't stop me from acknowledging that it's wrong of me.

It's one of those things where it's really just the practice. If all farm animals were treated well and given good living conditions before a painless, immediate death, then I wouldn't have an issue eating meat. But that simply isn't the case; the meat industry is fucking disgusting as it is. It's something I plan on becoming active in spreading awareness of.

Isn't the suffering of animals the utmost concern for vegans? Overpopulation in a habitat is most certainly something that causes suffering for animals. Limited food supplies can lead to starvation, especially among newborns. Is not the means of death relevant if their suffering is something that matters? Isn't being killed by predators better than eventually succumbing to exposure and not being able to feed one's self?

No, it isn't.

I'm pretty sure we could come up with some kind of strategy to prevent anything like that. Find a way to sterilize all wildlife. I don't fucking know.

I'd rather starve to death than be killed and eaten, personally.

Have you ever considered that that's why they wouldn't overpopulate?... It would either eventually level off, or they would adapt.

Question for vegans : If your distaste is with the food industry, if a plate of meat was put in front of you for free, why would you be opposed to eating it outside taste? You are giving no support to the meat industry by eating meat you did not pay for.

Because overpopulation leads to a lack of food, a lack of food leads to starvation, and starvation hurts a hell of a lot longer than being killed and consumed. This common sense, Jacob.

I love how quick you are to dismiss a credible argument instead of forming a proper rebuttal, by the way.

Obviously. To not eat it would be a waste of the animal's suffering.

When something dies its carcass is left to rot. If something doesn't come by to eat it, disease can spread. This requires living beings that consume meat.
Unlike you, I'm not afraid of extinction. If the entire human race died as a result of a disease spread by dead animal carcasses, I think that would be fucking awesome. That's exactly what the human race deserves.

It's difficult for the populations to adapt to a system such as that because favorable or unfavorable genes, all face the same difficulty of being able to find suitable sustenance. The only adaptation that would help would be having to eat less. An equilibrium is impossible to reach in a timely manner because the available food supply fluctuates just like any population does, unpredictable events like weather can cause widespread crop failure in just a year.

And does not the fact that you and I disagree on which we would prefer to happen to us show you that you cannot objectively state whether dying of predation or dying of starvation is worse?

asking a question =/= dismissing an argument

I'm still not convinced that herbivores would overpopulate to begin with. It's ALSO common sense that nature is a lot more nuanced than "if no one eats them, they won't ever stop producing ever."
