country/americana with occultism themes
That was overdone five years ago. S1 succeeded despite that, not because of it.

it seems like you just want an edgey regurgitation of season 1
I actually just want something that made me so invested in S1 again. As long as it isn't California again I'm cool. This would just be my dream season.

You're having a giggle right? 90% of cop dramas are set in LA and have plotlines that follow either 1) edgy police corruption or 2) edgy mob conspiracy.

No, True Detective S1 wasn't the first of its kind, but it certainly was a breath of fresh air from the saturated setting of LA.

90% of cop dramas are shit. The good ones are always about occult shit happening in a rural American town. We need a good cop drama that doesn't resort to that played out snoozefest.

nb nb

I think the underpinning sentiments we share here is the cultism/religiosity aspects of S1 that had a lot of us so captivated.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. S2 is good as a standalone detective drama with political conspiracy elements, but it's by far a good True Detective season. If Pizza decides to go back to occultism, then I'm not bothered what theme/director etc he rolls with.
