What exactly do I need to buy a car from a dealership?

dracula can eat my whole ass!
Due to current circumstances, I'm in need of a car. I'd like to get something that's good on gas and reliable, so feel free to suggest stuff, too. I was thinking Ford Focus or Hyundai Elantra/Accent.

I don't know the first thing about buying a car. I don't have anybody willing to help me out IRL with this. Do I absolutely need to make a downpayment? If so, what's the minimum I can put forward? I have virtually no money right now so that's also an issue. Any help is appreciated.

Car fax?

How cheap are we talking here? I'd like something with low mileage that I don't have to pay all at once.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
Okay, so, down payment requirement is mostly gonna be dependant on how much you want to or can finance. I only dropped a grand down front in my new used ride (2007) cause december/Novemberalways fuck me hardcore (and that's when I needed a new car) and I got a long loan time.
Might pay more in interest down the road, but that's down the road.

Oh, I see. That makes sense.

Still, I'd rather have some sort of bi-weekly payment plan like I would have through a dealership that allows me to not have to front a shit ton of cash right now.

So the more money I put up for a down payment, the longer (and more expensive) financing I have to go through?

For example, if I put down 1K, I'd have, say, $120 bi-weekly finance for 72 months. But if I put 5K, I'd have $120 bi-weekly for 24 months? (Or something like that...)

The more you put down, the less you have to finance.

not every garage participates in carfax's system and home maintenance in never reported.
Use it as a nice starting point, but don't go in blind on it alone.

The more you put down, the less you have to finance.

So I'd be paying a smaller amount every two weeks for the same amount of time.

It all depends on your loan terms, bro.

That hurts. Alot.

In what way?

I just turned 18 last month so it isn't like I had a long time to build up credit...

What's preferable, smaller amount for longer time, or larger amount for shorter time?

Is it possible for you to get  a loan? Even a small one to make halves with whatever you already have.

Also look for used cars online. Dont go to a dealership for god sake.

I'd rather not take out a loan if I can avoid it.

Those used cars you find online are sold at dealerships... pre-owned or something like that.

Plus you don't often need to worry about problems with your vehicle at a dealership.

Loans are a thing of life, its best to start now so you can accumulate a good credit rating if you ever want a large loan or a home loan, which I assume anyone needs.

Best to get out a small loan and pay it out over a few years.

For the dealership itself I would avoid the ones that have a decent amount of vehicles which have expired inspections.

What would you consider "small"?

Anything up to $5000

Usually 3-4K is good.
