I lost my grandfather 2 hours ago

I didn't see my grandpa before the end either. He had mesothelioma and it was horrific, week after week, he just struggled through breathing. There was a point when he looked at me (it was very hard for him to talk much) and he recognised me, and the look just said: This is ridiculous, I don't want you to see me this way. The way a look can convey sadness and humour and meaning.

So I didn't go back. He held on a couple of weeks longer and then left. Now I wish I had of gone back, but at the same time I hope he was pleased that I didn't. Would it have mattered either way? Only to me, I guess.

Sorry to hear that. Mine on my mother's side passed away three years ago in November. He was the last living grandparent at the time.

It's odd because my family is never sad. I've only seen my grandmother cry once before. We expected him to recover, and yeah the timing was bad.

My grandparents just sold their house and were moving into town to be closer to us.

My grandfather on my dads side I've never met in my life. He died before I was born
My grandfather on my moms side died from cancer when I was 4.
