I never stated that particular piece was without meaning, but if you took a random Joe and slapped in front of it, he'd be hard pressed to come up with any real meaning to it. And we know a lot of art today has become what I've just mentioned, the artist himself needs a clear message for himself in order to make art, even the concept of nonsense needs such a thing.

Compare that to The Oath of The Horatii where literally anyone could come up with valid meanings to the painting.

lol...
Refer to my reply to Turkey. I prefer David to Mondrian as well.

Why are you trying to preach to me about that?

I said I want to understand why that piece is considered to be quality. I assumed by posting that, you were responding to my question.

Azu, the problem is I'm not saying that I have to agree or like with every artist or their pieces. I completely agree with you there. However with the billions of people we have now in comparison to the previous era, it's folly to deny that there are plenty of individuals who ride on the coat-tails of artists who do makes complex and thought-invoking works. If someone creates a simple work but can't back it up with a reasoning other than to be "Deep" it's clear there was never any intention in the first place.

The problem with art now is we're getting flooded by that, and it's a royal pain in the ass having to filter through it.

the study of art doesn't require that you agree with the thought process of or like the works of every artist in history. I don't give a fuck. I think there are some holes in his thought process too.

Ember used to be cool and funny

Now he's just gay
like aria said, you gotta understand the context, try to understand the big works from the time period they were made in

Idk my opinion depends on the particular work
