i have an idea for a new multimedia discussion forum

the first two rules are going to be

1. anyone who says "that's just your opinion" after somebody states an opinion will be instantly and permanently banned
2. anyone who says "that's just my opinion" after stating an opinion will be temporarily banned after one warning

there will be no other rules

so it's not about free speech; if anything, posting shit like that is anti-free speech, and these rules would encourage more in-depth discussion, because it opens the door to better responses, such as "why do you feel this way?" which will inevitably lead to a more fruitful conversation or argument

everyone over the age of 3 understands that nobody's opinions are factual, so there's absolutely no point in acknowledging the subjectivity of your statements—it's kind of like pointing out that the sky is blue; why would you even do that

the only appropriate response to posts like that is to ban them, because they're essentially spam that contributes absolutely nothing

Oh I get it. Like, if you say some really well-thought-out logical argument that didn't seem to have any flaws, to your dumb cousin or something. And they say in response "yeah well that's just your opinion." It's like a get out of jail free card where you can just say that and make it seem like you ended the discussion in a badass way, but it's just stupid. Definitely a poser move there.

ah I get you now, so literally like setting up guiderails for people so they dont fall over the edge of their backwards logic. It sucks because that's a forceful imposition, but at the same time it just generates so much positive moral utility at practically no downside that's it hard to turn it down.
