Yeah, it HAS to be because I'm a fanboy, not because it might actually be "deep", God forbid right?
It's not deep. Even if Darth Vader was a completely original character, that still wouldn't make Star Wars deep. Not even close.

Quote
You're right, I asked for a similar character, but visual designs is grasping at straws, and the only character you provided as far as behavior/personality/purposes go wasn't similar at all.
Yes, he was, and merely stating otherwise like a petulant child doesn't make you right.

It's not deep because it's not deep. Explain to me how, if Darth Vader were an original character, that would somehow make Star Wars deep.

It's the most shallow series I can think of.

Do you even know what deep means in this context?

Also stop arguing about Darth Vader, originality doesn't make something deep, and he was not very original.

I just listed a millenia old character with the same basic outline.

I know exactly what "deep" means, but you people seem to be using it in a way outside of its definition, so feel free to explain to me precisely what you mean by "deep."

If it's "emotionally evocative," or something to that effect, I will literally find you.

It's not just Vader you Mongoloid, it's the cast having their back stories being interwoven with that of the MC who may be just the generic cliche hero. The political background of the OT is a reference to the Nazi's and WWII, not only that but how timeless it is and can be understood by any generation and how it could be applied to the events in their life. Just the simple fact that you have take something at more than just face value in the movie shows that it's not shallow.

It'd be simple to say it was shallow if there was just like, a single nod or reference and that was it. But the fact that the OT is riddled with them is a completely different story.

Except it's not even similar. It'd be similar if Vader wanted to "Rule" something, but he never did.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Oh that scene.

I still don't understand what the fuck he was talking about. Was he just being a little bitch about spending his childhood on Tatooine?

'I don't like sand it's coarse and it gets everywhere'
He was trying to hit on Padme. "I dislike sand. It's coarse and irritating and it gets everywhere." Then he follows up by saying something along the lines of her being the antithesis of sand.

It's still really shitty, but more in a "homeboy lucky he's pretty" kind of way.

And Vader isn't original in any way. He's a Mifune-type Samurai character. Hell, you could go as far as to say that the Sith can be traced back to Mifune's tough-as-nails samurai portrayals under Kurosawa.

Hell, Mifune was offered the role of Vader in the first place (and alternatively, Obi-Wan).

The only thing you can really argue to say that the line is shitty is that it has no place in a Star Wars movie, which, I don't think I need to explain why that's irrational. You may think it has no place in Star Wars, but not everyone's idea of Star Wars is yours.

The political background of the OT is a reference to the Nazi's and WWII,
The heavy handed and blatant black and white symbolism is one of my biggest complaints about Lucas. Moral ambiguity and grey zones were why the EU exploded with such popularity in the 00's. Stories got much more interesting then.

You can sum the OT as "Flash Gordon serial, but about samurai with laser swords and space nazis."

I love the OT, but you can't honestly say that it's an original work. It drew inspiration from major events and works from George's childhood.

I detest this definition, because that means literally any movie can be deep.

I just don't think it's the sort of word that you should be throwing around willy-nilly, because it devalues it.

But sure, if Star Wars has some kind of meaning to you, I can't take that away from you. But I don't qualify that as "deep."

If you've never heard the phrase 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' then you're completely off base in everything.

I don't find stimulation in, nor do I identify with Adam Sandler movies, but high and drunk people do, and they derive deep meaning from a lighthearted moral.

Anything can be deep, its just a matter of whether or not you are poised to receive and understand that depth.

That's that concretely are deep though, are things that any person, regardless of background, state of mind, or any other influential factors, finds that identification and simulation in.

I consider the themes conveyed in Star Warsto be an example of absolute depth, where the only people who cannot share in this wealth are in denial, or to the degree of desire to become better, entirely inhuman.

It's is this utterly complete relatability that makes something objectively deep, though not all depth is objective.

There aren't a whole lot of movies that I'd consider objectively "deep," but here are a few examples:

Citizen Kane.
The Godfather.
Reservoir Dogs.
A Clockwork Orange.
The Dark Knight.
Inception.

Basically any of Nolan's movies except for Batman Begins and Rises.

2001: A Space Odyssey.
Scarface (seriously).
Requiem for a Dream, beyond the obvious "drugs are bad" message.
The Seventh Seal.
The Deer Hunter.

There's more, but if you've seen any or all of these movies, you can probably see where I'm getting at. Hopefully.
