Someone doing drugs by themselves doesn't directly hurt anyone else. That doesn't make it any less stupid. There is no way to make self-harm okay. None. And by the way, you just established meaning for our existence. You established a purpose. "Do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't hurt others." You just helped my argument. Because that's what I say. That's what I have surmised to be our purpose. Not an explicit, objective purposeβone I'm imposing, obviously.
Okay, you got me. In the way that makes you individually happy and fulfilled, while not directly adversely affecting anyone else. Someone doing drugs by themselves doesn't directly hurt anyone else.
Someone enjoying their lives isn't stupid. And that's not really a "purpose" so much as a philosophy.

Enjoying your life, if that's all you value, is hedonistic (which I use as a pejorative), selfish, and egocentric. Risking your own life to experience some frivolous pleasure is infinitely stupid, and you deserve whatever negative happens to you if it does happen to you. You gamble your money, you should expect to lose. In fact, let's not gamble at all.The pleasures I enjoy are simple with no real risk involved. I play games from time to time, or maybe I'll write a short story. These things give me pleasure, but there's relatively zero risk of me harming myself. If your idea of fun IS having that risk, I call you an idiot. Unless your idea of fun is getting hurt, which, that's still stupid, but I actually think that's even less stupid than someone who's willing to take a risk.
I take it you mean "stupid" in the sense of intelligence, which is just dumb.
QuoteI take it you mean "stupid" in the sense of intelligence, which is just dumb.No. I mean "stupid" in the sense that if you do something inadvisable or risky, I'm gonna call you on it. I'm gonna browbeat you, because it's a stupid thing to do, regardless of how actually intelligent or successful you may be. The Carl Sagan shit is just idiotic. I make analogies all the fucking time; most of them involve death, and every single time, some cunt has to come by and say something stupid like, "Wow, I can't believe you're going to compare that to murder." And use that as an argument against me. But it's okay for you to compare yourself to Carl Sagan, right. A scientist who probably had an extensive knowledge of not only the drugs themselves, but also of his own physiology? You know nothing about drugs or your own body. You say you know "just enough". Well, "just enough" for you isn't "just enough" for any rational, intelligent human being.
Yes, because before you do anything you need to extensively understand the precise details and every miniscule effect it may have. Before you have a glass of water, you need to know how every organ in your body will react to the water, and the atomic physiology of every chemical that makes it up, right?

We know what it does, and we know what it HAS done for people for millennia.
