Like obviously I get where Flee is coming from. He's saying that if you've had the job for a while and you can't just buy the game now then it means you've got nothing in your bank account and if that's the case you need to focus on saving money rather than buying a video juega
I guess so, but if I had spare money I'd just buy more expensive drugs / take an uber home one day instead of the bus
Dude trust me, save at least 50 dollars if you wanna live recklessly. Don't save money to live in luxury, just do it for rainy days

Hey class, I thought this was your first paycheck. Is it gonna be your second one?
yeah, I've been working here like a month and a week now, it's such an awesome job and I get paid more than I did at BK and have to do like 1/10 of the work

first paycheck I bought a PS4 and wasted it on ubers/lyfts (when the bus is only $1) and I won't be making that mistake again
okay so bills and all that shouldn't be more than like 600 dollars for a month. How tf are you not saving at least 200 dollars each month?
PS4 with Just Cause 3 was like $320

I took maybe five ubers, that's $100

Rent for my mom, $200

Miscellaneous food + drugs is like $100

and I bought my little brother soccer gear

As I said, the PS4 is bought and I'm probably just buying one PS4 game with this paycheck (choosing between these two), and I'm not going to use uber, so I'll probs have a lot more spending money this time

why is it not a good idea to wait until you have money to buy something
Of course it's a good idea to wait until you're able to afford something, but whether or not you should actually buy it as soon as you're able to depends a lot on what it is and how much money you have. It tends to be a pretty good idea to build up a reserve and have money on hand for whatever might come your way as to invest, get interest, build credit, put it towards big long term projects like property, and to avoid having to go in debt, defaulting payments, hurting your credit score or just screwing yourself in any way. It's perfectly fine to wait and save up for big(ger) purchases, but if you can't afford to just go out and drop as small of an amount as $60 on something you want, then chances are you're probably not in a situation where you should do just that the moment you've got some cash again.
LOL look at this dude

my credit is probably terrible, I constantly get bills for student loans/medical stuff and just ignore them

when I have money it's rare, I've spent 90% of my life with no money - why do I need money on hand to buy RDR2 lol? You have an actual job, I live with my mom and have been working at Burger King and shit, this hotel job I have is my first real job. I'm not an adult, I don't even drive, and yeah when I get money first thing I do is pay my mom and buy myself something nice

Might not be the best idea to grab a brand new game if you have to wait to get paid until you can get it.
Huh?

I don't get it, how else would I pay for a game? You kinda need money to buy things lol?
It's not that you have to pay for it, it's that you have to wait before you're able to pay for it. Unless that's not the case and I'm reading too much into it, but saying pointing out that you'll be waiting on your paycheck before buying a game you could otherwise just get right now does give that impression. You do you of course, but it seems a bit strange from a personal finance perspective.
Really confused about this. I have $0 right now because I already spent my last paycheck on bills/rent/fun/games, and when I get my next paycheck I'll likewise spend it on bills/rent/fun/games. I don't always have money on hand lol, do you?
Well yeah, I do. That's kind of what financial stability means.
Whoever said I have financial stability? That has never been a thing I've had or am pursuing

i mean, i guess you're not wrong, in the sense that we could all be more generally responsible with our money, but i just think there's a time and place to be dropping wisdom like that

either way, i wouldn't describe $60 as a small amount when we're talking about video games, especially to someone who probably doesn't even consider them to be anything more than meaningless entertainment

adulthood is about mentality and one's capacity to look out for oneself, age is arbitrary

you could say it's about "maturity" too but i don't even know what that means

i won't even buy a meal's worth of food if it's over $10, so i'd have to be crazy to drop $60 on a game without thinking about it first

The fuck does this even mean? He's working, so he's obviously aware of the bare necessities of responsibilities as an adult. Lay off, you're just insulting him for no good reason.

Fair enough, but I don't think this is a bad time to mention it. In his own words, this is Class his first "real" job and he clearly doesn't have it all sorted yet. He can say he doesn't care about financial stability but he's setting himself up for failure big time that way.

And $60 is a reasonably small amount of money by most general standards. In terms of video games it's of course not that little as it's the full price of a brand new game, but I'd stay it's still well within the range of what you ideally should be able to spend on luxury / entertainment at a given time. If you don't have that amount of discretionary spending available between paychecks, then you might want to budget things a bit differently or spend that money elsewhere.
im dying in the next five years lol why should I care about my credit

Imagine getting to 4O and realizing you still haven’t found or created what you need to feel alright even after the long long years of searching and stumbling only to find out you were right when you thought you would be better dead at 18
