I'm Thinking About Putting Linux on My Laptop

I had my first computer science class today so I got familiarized with the OS having never used Linux before, and I enjoyed it. This will also allow me to do my work without going to one of the computer labs, which is a long ass walk down hill.

I'd like to keep my old OS too; I'm currently running windows 10.

Any tips or tricks?

I think you can download an emulator for certain OS', but I'm not sure what specifically supports across platform. It makes it easy to instantaneously switch, if, for example, you're in an emergency and need to play Zoombinis on a Mac.

Since you're a beginner, you're definitely gonna wanna start with arch, or maybe even gentoo if you're feeling particularly fat and greasy.

Yeah but Windows 10 has this thing where it force boots directly into it which you can then access your Linux OS. At least that's what it did to me on my other laptop. But that might just be because my laptop has UEFI instead of a BIOS

you don't need more experience to install it. a 3 year old could do it.

You can dual run the OS's and switch back and forth between them. I'm not sure what kind of computer you have, but I would recommend putting the Linux on an external hard drive. I actually put it on a Usb flash drive when I had it on my Chromebook laptop.

Edit: there is also an ubuntu forum that was really helpful to me.

Not yet, I tried out booting Ubuntu from a flash drive today. I'm thinking that I will try to do it with dual booting over the weekend.

there's no reason to do that, though, unless you're a hobbyist. there's literally no reason to force yourself into that time sink unless you enjoy it.
