how do you handle your friend embarrassing himself on social media

it's just kind of a small thing but my buddy is leaving for a 40 day trip to south america tomorrow and he posted a photo saying "see ya folks going on a trip to the land down under tomorrow"

but land down under specifically refers to australia. i pointed this out to him in PMs cuz i didn't want to embarrass him in the comments but i felt like i was coming off as a know it all or something. idk.

what do you do in situations like that?

Ironically, if he said it in person, I'd have no problem with verbally correcting him, even in public.

I guess it's just easier to be polite about it, or make it funny w/o making him feel bad. It's hard to call somebody a dumbass in a playful tone on the Internet--even if you baby-proof the shit out of your post.

at the end of the first message instead

even if emojis don't work on your computer,

is just a good way to say "it's no big deal, i'm just giving you a hard time"

it makes people less defensive in my experience, and helps them understand their error and move on without feeling bad
