When is it appropriate to call back a potential employer?

My interview was last Friday. They gave me an assignment that was to summarize an article about a new combat rescue helicopter being designed by Sikorsky (it is going to replace the Pave Hawk). Anyways, I've waited a week which seems reasonable, and I am going to call Monday right when I get home from work. Good idea or too soon? I know it varies for employers. For an interview I had with an IT job it took me a month to get the call for a second interview, and I did not call.

Actually calling them shows that you're truly interested in the job and want to take initiative to get it

At least that's what I've been told by somebody who runs a recruiting company

You should've called back by Wednesday unless they told you to wait a week. Call Monday morning, not at the end of the day.

I did every week for another job, then the beotch told me they were getting rid of the position lol
