Agreed, but it's not an easy task. The have to completely have to change how exposition is delivered, or else it'll be four hours of people thinking.

Damn it, no!

They tried to follow the first film up with sequels, but they all failed. What makes them think that this reboot won't? The movie worked precisely because it was cheesy and from the 90s, so if you try to make a reboot of that it'll end up like Duke Nukem.
