Guitar Help needed

okay i have no idea what i am doing.
First thing i have no idea how to read chord tabs and how to space them and play them. Example:
Follow you into the Dark Chord

Also the tabs not sure if they are right.
Same thing But what is the spacing how long is each note.
Is this a better tab

Or is this the better one

Chord sheets simply tell you where chord changes happen, typically using the lyrics for reference. That's all they do, nothing more, nothing less. I'll actually go to them first to familiarize myself with the progression.

Tabs can be written without spacing and frequently are. If it is written with proper spacing and lengths noted above, then that's probably a good indication that the dude writing it knows his stuff.
Honestly, I don't ever try to learn something from just tabs though, but if you're trying to, just look through the comments on the page and most importantly just trust your ears if you have doubts about the accuracy of a tab.

I prefer these chord charts. If you hover your mouse over the chord name, it shows you the fingering.

I would begin by simply learning the chord shapes and memorizing how Dm to F feels, and F to Bb feels, etc. Then string them together. After you can strum the chords, then you can arpeggiate them.

What I notice about UG is often the chord names aren't above the correct word in the lyrics where the chords change in the song. Play along with the song to get it right.

It all depends on the voicing of the guitar part. A song like Seven Nation Army is really easy to learn and you don't really need to know anything but powerchords. The melody is a single-note line on the same string. It's tough to go from that to an acoustic song because what you learned playing a single note at a time doesn't transfer to playing chords or arpeggios.

That is my main problem. Need to figure out how to play the chords and and the spacing between them. Problem for me is the song itself feel more like it is being finger picked which is why i went for the tab instead of the chords. With the chords not exactly sure what to do.

Chord sheets just tells you what chord to hit on what lyric in the song. most cases, it doesn't tell you strum patterns. Tabs are more precise with each individual note. personally i use chord charts if it's just simple strumming or arpeggios picking( if i know the chord i can sound out the notes). Tabs are good, but imo, they're only good when you already know the chord structure.

Lets just say i am a total beginner. Reading these charts have been an issue. Though have been using rocksmith to try to see if i can learn. Kind of fun to try to learn songs on it, but when it comes down to harder songs and reading them off UG if the tab is readable i can do it. Chord is not something i spent much time in.

Well i can but thought of trying to learn it with the charts. Cannot carry the guitar with me everywhere. Plus got to get me that capo.
