I personally find it somewhat cowardly, but I accept I am not very good with psychology.

In my eyes it's someone running away from their problems, taking the ultimate turn off of your path, you could have been great, you could have been a wonder to this world, there is no amount on what cannot be achieved. You leave behind loved ones, friends and family who grieve and are left distressed, they could have helped, someone, something could have saved you, but you didnt wait long enough to see. I believe life is sacred....why discard such a thing?

Given a more distinct situation where the end is inevitable, it can be the bravest thing to take your life with your own hands other then someone or something else's. But then...the course is run, that you may never know what may have happened with that life had you not taken it yourself.

This is my opinion, I know that, and I'm not religious either.

Suicide is never cowardly, it's the last resort for people who don't see the world in the same way everyone else does. depression eats you from the inside out. it's a disease that makes you no longer think life is worth living, or even see the world in colour any more. depression is like seeing a world where everything is just a shade of grey, you see life as a pointless battle. you know, now that I've dealt with a bit of depression myself, the last thing my brother said to me is starting to make sense now, he said 'don't let anyone take that colour away from your eyes, enjoy the life you were given,' he killed himself in the middle of the night, left a note, grabbed a rope from the garage, and tied it around his neck. he was the nicest guy I had ever met, heart of gold, always looking out for others, and he was bullied to suicide, just because of his weight. My brother killed himself because he was depressed, people were calling him a fat worthless piece of shit, and he believed it. He saw no other way out of it.

Because they can still function in society, assuming they have the proper treatment.

Most cases are untreated though.

Case in point

You're not a threat to others if you're depressed. You can be a threat to yourself though, and depressed people aren't insane. It's a mental health issue that causes you to feel lonely, helpless and worthless among other things that eats away at a person to the point of not wanting to live anymore because they feel it's a pointless battle.
Do yourself a favour and read up on it so you don't look like an idiot (well, a bigger idiot than you already are).
