Yeah I had to read Hamlet, and I didn't really understand what the hell happened in that story until we did the play... even then I was more focused on making sure the lighting was perfect, so I think I missed something still. Of Mice and Men was probably my favorite force read since I can remember most of that book.

Thankfully, we didn't have to do it as a play. Just read it.

That said, reading old english is the worst thing in the world.

Oh yeah no it was just a coincidence. I was in technical theater (our school had a college level theater program).

Ah, we have to do it as part of GCSE English.

What is GCSE?

Exams you do in Year 11 (Age 16). you do english, maths, science and then four other subjects of your choosing.

In my school ,we were forced to do french and either history or geography, so I only got to choose IT and graphics design.

So there's these wee little bastard kids, boyscouts or some shit, and they're on a mother fucking boat, you know, like that one in some song. Except that oh shit, the boat crashes and for some reason all the wee little bastards make landfall on that island from Lost, except without all their adult patrons, who probably alternately washed up on Gilligains Island instead.

So, the wee little bastards start forming special groups like all highschool little shits do. You know, the nerds, the jocks, the goths, and everything is peachy for about two days, until they get harrassed by the black smoke monster(actually a pig). So, Jock squad kills the black smoke monster and declares themselves king shit of the island, instantly absorbing most of the other special clubs into their ranks while the nerds don't really feel like signing up for dodgeball.

So, the story ends with the jocks putting the beatdown on the nerds as they give them some old fashioned swirlies. The jocks go all out with warpaint and stuff to show that they mean business and one of the nerds takes a hit right in the kisser and goes down like a sack of bricks.

Then the jocks feel absolutely haram that they killed one of their best math test aids and reunify just in time for some dude on a boat to show up and give them a stern talking to about how they're not supposed to be here. This is of course, Christopher Columbus making landfall on the wrong continent and calling it India.

Lord of the Flies had terrible writing in my opinion. Dialogue between characters was a chore to read through.
