8chan was created as an alternative to 4chan when Moot sold out to Gawker and started suppressing any criticism of them or discussion of Gamergate.

The idea was noble I guess, but it was doomed from the start.
Actually from my understanding it was around for a while before GG. It just became the de facto alternative. I think it could be decent ,I guess, Hotwheels would just need to be stricter about who can make boards and how many of the same basic types can be made.
