to be fair, he is an actor. it's part of his job. the story wasn't written with his trauma in mind.

Or the could've just not done the pointless fucking scene in the first place? I mean, come on.

What was even the point? They'd bastardised the character enough, made him look like a bitch, and then make him burn his fucking daughter for no reason other than shock value and to further their assassination of Stannis's character. It wouldn't even be that big a deal if they didn't put him through so much shit to shoot a pointless scene, regardless of how nice they might've been.

the little quote we were given just says that it was very hard for the actor and there were multiple takes. hbo might have tried to make it bearable for stephen dillane (or they might not have cared, i don't know).

didn't the creators of the show say they added those scenes because they were eventually going to be written into the books, though? in which case it wasn't necessarily pointless.

Well that is the rumour but I wouldn't be surprised if that never happens given how it completely goes against Stannis's background.

Even if GRRM does decide to kill of Shireen, it'll still be a hell of a lot better than how HBO pulled it off. Like I said, HBO pretty much did it entirely for shock value and to further fuck up Stannis's character.

They'd already fucked up Jaime, Tyrion, Lady Stoneheart, Cersei, Robb, sort-of Jon, Loras and Petyr Baelish. It's just a poor show at this point, being cheap at the actors' emotional expense.
